Shop Truck

Well we'll try this 67 289 out of a Fairlane

2V 289 and a C4...

OOOHHH.... I like! :yahoo: :headbang: :icon_hornsup: :icon_hornsup:

now the only thought I have is if fuel injection parts from a "newer" 302 will work on the 289. All of the advantages of fuel injection, all of the fun of running a 289, plus less wear on the motor.

:stirthepot: hehehe
Food for thought :icon_thumby:

I would prefer the carb over a fuel injection engine, no computers to play with, and a good carb setup can get just as good if not better mpg then a fuel injection.

Well I love the looks of this engine down to the air filter... the truck I pulled the caps and emblems from was a 67.. it just happens this V8 is the same year....
I'm having to round up a oil pan and I should set.

I would prefer the carb over a fuel injection engine Most would for simplicity, Not me though..., no computers to play with, true, but if your not scared of wiring... and a good carb setup can get just as good if not better mpg then a fuel injection. This I don't know about, but if you go with fuel injection you don't have to tune it for winter, summer, elevation, plus you won't be putting as much wear on the motor at start up

I love the looks of older motors but under the air filter you could hide a throttle body, the only real giveaway would be the o2 sensors, and wiring.

hmmm..... If you did stay with Carb you could use the F.I. exhaust manifolds and o2 sensors to help tune the carb, all you need is a multi-meter hooked to the right o2 wires, could be helpful.

Right now I have it make it all fit. This is my Daily Driver.

I started ordering odd parts, Freeze plugs and gaskets.. I'll have to pull the heads and measure the bores and get some new valves and harden seats in stalled.

OK my Update... I'm still fighting the gas tank issue! I haven't found a replacement yet, so I'm kicking around the Bronco II tank.
I have the 8.8 3L73 with disc brakes to weld pads and shock mounts on.

The 289 heads are at the machine shop.. and in very good shape for their age.
They are putting harden seats in, new valve guides, GM style screw in studs and decking them just enough to clean them up, the concept is to keep it simple and clean.
So for the head mods, very modest! a set of C9 or DO 351 Windsor valves to replace the stock 66 289 valves.

Intake : 289W 1.67 vs 351W 1.78

Exhaust : 289W 1.45 vs 351W 1.54

Not really a huge difference like the 1.90 1.60 after market stainless steal valves.
I'm currently looking for true flat top pistons to bump the compression up a bit but I'm currently sticking with Cast or Hyper-U-Crackems.

Body wise were shopping for a new bed to replace the rusty old bed and I'm waiting on my new Hot-Rod mirrors ! and a gas tank...

Had a few set backs but I finally got to 4wheel parts and pick these up to do the 8.8 swap.

So what type of compression are you wanting to run, and what octane will you have to run with it?

My goal is the high 9's but well see..
Looks like Pure low grade gas with the carb since I can't find a Ethe friendly kit yet.

New everything. I'll get more done when I get the money.

Hot hot Summer.. lack of funds and fun... has held up the project.
But it's getting better!

The truck has been halling and driving, but not doing great.
This week I'm going to take the 289 block to the machine shop.
The grass has been so dry I was kinda worried about welding, but now it's green again.
So let the sparks fly!
We're still needing a rear gas tank, floor boards and door window tracks and sweeps.
So If you know a economical option or vendor let me know.

FrankBoss

well, if you lived closer, I have a set of doors with tinted windows and new tracks and sweeps in them I could sell you.
