So what does everyone use and why?

I'm getting tired of my old electric shaver, it's lasted well over 10 years and I think it needs new blades at the least (replaced them once or twice before). But I don't think it does all that great of a job even with new blades. It's an old Remington DA307 with a double foil and pop-up trimmer. And I have a Norelco T7500 beard trimmer thing that I've rebuilt at least two times, lol.

Still hesitant to go to a straight razor though... just the whole putting an extremely sharp set of blades on your face seems a bit crazy. (I have used them in a pinch though and have one in my "weekend" duffel). If I have to though I might seriously consider it.

Bottom line though is that I hate shaving, I'd rather spend those extra few minutes elsewhere during each day, but since I'm now the boss, I have to stay looking presentable :icon_twisted:

i hear you man i hate shaving but i use an electric razor too. its faster than a straight razor.

I've been using a straight for a bit over a year now. Wouldn't use anything else. Love stropping the blade and whipping up the lather with my badger hair brush.

I used to say that I liked shaving about as much as I liked mowing the lawn....

Now I can't say that anymore since I've progressed to using a lawn tractor with a yard large enough to have a beer or two during the process - now I actually enjoy getting out there to mow.

I use a Norelco cheapo 3 headed one. Its not perfect, but it gets the job done. The only real bad part is around the corners. It doesn't get around my jaw or throat real well so my throat gets real irritated most times, but that only lasts a few minutes.

you think shavings gonna change that eh:thefinger:

i use both. i use my shick quattro if its been a while and the stubbles too long for meh electric razor.

I have a norelco cheapy too.. I hate it I always feel irritated like all day. and I usually get red bumps or something, not to mention it doesn't get the hairs really well.

I usually get some edge shaving cream, and a 4 blade gilette or what ever... take my time and its nice and smooth. I'll never go back to an electric shaver. The best part is that it takes less time then the electric one did.

I don't have problems with closeness, I can usually get that pretty good with a few passes. I don't have real bad problems with irritation except on my throat, but then, I've been shaving since I was 13, used an electric most of that time.

The real trick is to keep the blades clean. I don't even take it apart and brush them every time, I just take the whole head off and bang it on the side of the sink a few times.

yeah thats what I did too... i brushed it out every once in awhile then said screw it and went to the straight razors and never turned back. better then paying 50 buck or so for replacement blades on a 20 dollar razor.

I have never progressed to a straight blade but I watched my dad shave on the RR going to Idaho with one. No nicks, cuts or anything, The conductor wouldn't even stay and watch :) :) Personally I get a bead trim when I get my haircut and that suffices me. Haven't been clean shaved since the Airforce and that was 30+ years ago.

Back to the subject though, my dad said 5 strokes and you should be done! Fastest and smoothest finish.

I use one of those fusion power straight blades. Like others the only area i have irritation is my throat. I have an electric but I hate it. It hardly does anything and it seems like it pulls the hair rather than cut it.

a razor hasnt touched my face since i got out of the army in august, i cant stand shaving but i do keep it trimmed up nice with beard trimmers. when i did shave, i liked my electric razor over a regular razor.

I haven't been completely clean shaven in years... but I can't stand to have a heavy beard - mine grows so thick that I have a hard time getting it dry, and I've had that cause skin irritation. But I do like some form of goatee.

And yea, the electric razor seems to do decent on my cheeks but not on the under edge of my chin and jawline, usually several passes will get it fairly decent but that irritates the skin, and me.

you think shavings gonna change that eh:thefinger:

I shoulda known better than to say something like that... Always gotta be a wiseguy somewhere in the crowd....

Gilette Fusion. Someone should start a facial hair thread. I got a lil something going on on my chin haha
