How do I delete the secondary coil from the 90 2.3 liter I have. My truck runs okay most of the time, but every once in a while it runs like crap. What I think it is doing is the secondary system starts to try to work. Then it starts spitting and sputtering something awful. I just want a way to eliminate the secondary system.

The passenger side ignition system has very little to do with anything, once out of crank mode both outputs are energized, it'll run just fine on the drivers side alone but if you have a tach that won't work... that is the only symptom of the secondary ignition not working...

You have something different going on, is it an early '90 with just a MAP sensor or a later '90 with a MAF sensor?

I have a map sensor located on the firewall.

That system is less picky on vacuum leaks unless it's on the MAP sensor hose itself. The crank sensors usually give out from heat like you'll drive for an hour and it'll stall then start up again in a couple hours and run for a random amount of time... The ignition module on the front of the intake can be iffy (I've never had one of these go out so not sure, but similar to the TFI modules that have issues), they're what processes the crank sensor signal and sends it to the computer. Then there's the fact that it's 34 years old and a capacitor on the computer could be going out which kinda sounds like it could be, there's been a number of them around here lately... not sure how my '85 ECM on my '90 is still running fine... I think I still have the original ECM from my '90 around, it's the same setup as yours so should work, I'll look later...

I think I will start by replacing the hose on the map sensor. I always go with the easy and cheapest thing first.
