sbc in a ranger?

Just for the record, I counted the splines and found 28. I called flaming river to order a coupler, and they said that if i have one flat spot in the steering box then it's a 36 spline count. Hopefully this helps anybody wondering the same thing i was

if the gasket face of the bowl is warped, you can tape a sheet of 200 or 300 grit wet-sanding paper to a granite counter-top....grit-side facing up....and press lightly while sliding the bowl-gasket-face around on the sandpaper in a figure-8 motion...check the face every 15 or 20 seconds of doing figure-8's.....you'll see the warped spots appear as a different shade as the sandpaper wears them down to be flat with the rest of the surface.

Clean gas up with brake kleen??????? Use a towel next time.

Try what doorgunner said about the float bowl, tht should fix the priblem, just dont over do it.

I wanna hear this thing running!!!!!!

Forgot to add, guys say that putting chap stick on the gaskets helps to disassemble them and to be able to reuse the gaskets.

thanks dg I'll give that a try tonight :icon_thumby:
Dangerranger, I have no idea what my buddy was thinking with the brake kleen either. As soon as I saw him spray it I was just like wtf????there goes my nice paint job. I'll get some pics up soon so you can see what I went through

Brake Kleen vs. Paint

I think it's pretty obvious who the winner was

shows up real good with them yeller plug wires & that chrrrome lid....yep.....real goood!

i like the camo paint job on the engine:D

i use plate glass to deck sand stuff from thrust bearings to float bowls...

now why didn't I think of plate-glass......it's a lot better than mom's granite counter top because of the bruises she'd put on your head.......

well i got to drive the ranger the other day, but had a few issues. So we timed it and it ran great, until I put it in gear, then it would sit there and backfire and run like crap, but in park it ran fine. so we messed with the timing while it was in gear and got it to run better, but the timing marks were on the passenger side, not the driver's side. Then when i went to drive it, as soon as i put it under a load, same thing...backfire and no power. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

It's carb related. Your dumping way too much fuel. Try adjusting the mixture screws. If that dont do it. You might be off on the cam timing

I checked the cam timing, that's right on. I am borrowing an edelbrock carb to slap on there just to see what that does. I hate holley carbs with a passion now!

Me too!!!!!.......the stupid thing keeps messin up the transmission...it makes the tires spin when the trans hits 2nd gear!

This is why I hate holleys too. Edelbrock is so much better. On ever 350 I've ever run with a holley they run like crap. Edelbrock means no troubles

I musta got a defective Holley 600cfm....I bolted it to the V-8.....hung a gallon of gas from the rafter feedin the carb with 6 feet of fuel line....and fired that animal up---open headers---exhaust flames a foot long...it was inspirational...Wahahahahhahaaaaa....
