Hey all! I have a '04 Ranger with the 4.0 and want to add cruise control. Wondering if anyone on the forum has installed the Rostra universal cruise on their Ranger. I've spoken with Rostra and of course they say it works great.

Anyone with experience installing and using? What's your thoughts?

If your truck is prewired with the necessary wiring on the passenger inner fender, it may be more cost effective to add factory cruise to your truck, depending on the cost of junkyard parts near you. My 98 had all the electrical necessary to add it, I swapped the steering column from a truck with cruise into it (you'll get a tilt wheel if you go this route, as cruise and tilt almost always came together), plugged in the servo, put in the cruise control fuse and instead of swapping in a master cylinder with the switch, I just bridged the two wires. (yes, I know it should be there, but in my case, depressing the brake pedal or the clutch still turn it off.) I have used a Rostra cruise control on my other truck before, it was one of the vacuum powered units and it was absolutely terrible. I have no experience with the electronic units.

I'm trying not to pull the column out if I don't have too. The new Rostra is only $249 shipped, so I might have to give it a try.
