does any one know if a 2000 ranger with standard pinion will work for my 1996 with a high pinion... both splines, diameters, size, and dana35 ifs all match up...also both are reverse rotation... so is the only difference the position in carrier/case????? HELP

The 2000 isn't "reverse rotation" (or reverse-cut, reverse-spiral, hi-pinion or whichever term you prefer). The gears do not interchange, you need to get hi-pinion/reverse-cut gears for your '96 frontend.

Welcome to the boards.

thats what i was afraid of, but my ? is: dana35 is a dana35? the guy sent me pics of the gears i want (need to buy) and ill have to double check the rotation on them... ive found all the specs and they spec out the same but the rotation might kill the hunt... where is a good place to locate parts that the R/P dont cost $700.:shok:
thanks for all your help and i love this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reverse vs. standard matters (basically they are mirror images of each other, so if you try to put one in the wrong housing, the teeth would be 90° to each other and of course will not mesh together).

There's also a lot of fine details involved with installing the gears, and numerous special tools are required as well. I assume you have a shop lined up to do the installation for you?

Also, have you checked right here at the TRS Fab store for gears?

dont really have a shop to do it, just a bunch of old ford buddies and shop full of tools. buddies have done a R/P install and im pretty compitant in myself... I checked out the TRS store, thats alot better and i think ill just buy gears from here. thanks again:beer:

Not sure if you meant "competent" or "confident" in your post (I'm hoping it's the latter)
If you want to brush up a little on what's involved, check out the FAQ at the top of the Axles section, there are some links to sites that explain gear installation in good detail.
