Reverse Light Switch

If access from the top doesnt work, I'd try removing the trans cross member and let it hang. Not sure what would hit the firewall so look carefully first.

IIRC, the power should be there all the time. That switch is on the ground side. Might wanna look into it.

Cool. Thanks. I'll chase some grounds too!

Soooooooo...

One part of the mystery has been solved.
I found the connector.
Unplugged and wrapped in tape. 😡

I have the battery disconnected and it's about to thunderstorm so I didn't plug it in to test it yet.

one side of the wiring connector will be power. the other will read significant resistance because it is going thru the
bulbs then on to ground.
it should not be a dead short or open circuit/extremely high resistance.
you could measure a bulb to get an idea of what it should be close to.

Resurrecting my own thread... Because I am just now getting back to this problem.

Got the old sensor out no problem.

Unplugged it and slid a 22mm gear wrench on it... Done.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the new one in?

The gawdayum steel fuel lines are in the way.

I can fish it up into position, and get the tip to sit in the hole, but can't get it to square up against the opening and get the threads to bite.

I just need it to catch one thread and hold it then I can get the wrench back on it.

I've been fighting with it for over an hour, my hands are cramped and cold...

Go warm your hands for a while and try to de-stress. Once you get back at it with flexible hands and a clear mind, it should go in within the first 15-20 hours of struggle.

Positive reinforcement.
That's why I came here.
I knew I could count on you guys.

Well, more seriously, it does often help to take a short break from a frustrating project. Getting warm again and destressing really can be helpful. I've been there many times.

I know.

It's frustrating because now the truck is out of service until I get that switch back in.

I talked to a buddy earlier and he thinks the bevel on the OE part helped it align and seat.

I didn't buy the Motorcraft one but I didn't buy a no name white box.

"Standard Motor Products" Pretty common for replacement electrical components on RockAuto

a jewelers file on that first thread might help.

stubby wrench?

random idea, hold the switch in place with a ratcheting wrench, then twist with your fingers? or a small ignition wrench on the plastic part?
what I mean is to get creative with tools and alternate ways to access something.

edit: search "offset extension wrench" maybe a local parts retailer has one in the loaner program.

I am going to touch up the first thread a bit.

I'll try to get a pic later of the ridiculous access and location to see if anyone sees something that I'm not.

I'm going to try holding it in place with the gear wrench again and see if I can get my fingers on the connector to turn it.
