Replacing my ignition cylinder to troubleshoot intermittent wiper issues and a spinning cylinder. Old came out fine. New one doesn't go all the way in but I'm still able to start it, engage lock release, and remove key. When I take the key out and open the door the dinging comes on and doesn't turn off until I disconnect terminal.

What am I missing?

Tried this thread but didn't help.

Thanks!

I just replaced mine with a non OEM replacement as well, mine has about the same gap I believe it's just the difference in parts, as long as the pin in the bottom seated properly it's in.

Hmm. I wonder if it's contributing to the door chime problem (chimes even when it's not supposed to), though I've had that problem a long time.

My doors don't chime so I'm unsure, although that sounds more like an eletrical error in the doors/latches

The reason I associate them is that when my old cylinder would spin I could get the chiming to stop by spinning it to a "just right" spot.

Replaced mine on my 1996 XLT a couple years ago. Mine looks about the same as yours. Mine every so often will get out of "sync" and the key won't line up correctly and I can't turn the ignition. When that happens it takes me a couple of minutes of finagling with it to get the key to finally fit correctly and able to turn the switch. So far it hasn't irritated me enough to change it out again, but it might be on the horizon.
