Hey guys, Im about to replace both the cylinder heads on my truck (92 ranger 4.0). The bank 2 head cracked from over heating and after some research I decided to replace them both. Does anyone have any tips or suggestion before I start? Iv been a master technician for 10 years and I built stock car motors for a while some where in there so I know the lingo and my way around an engine, but that doesn't mean I won't take good advice. Thanks guys.

follow fords repair manual to a T. they are very specific in there repairs. Seeing as your a master tech, then you know all the other stuff. ie, torquing everything to spec and such. are you doing the engine in the truck or on a stand?

also when you put the heads back on, you have to torque the heads AND the lower intake manifold in sequence TOGETHER and you have about 20 minutes before that black RTV sets ups. So work quickly haha

I picked up a repair manual and got the job done Wednesday (2 days ago) before I read your message. I replaced the heads with the block in the truck. didn't really run into any problems, every thing was pretty straight forward. I the manual wasn't very clear about torquing the heads and lower intake together. I ended up installing them separately, I hope I don't run into any issues. do you know why its so important? the truck runs great so far.

No probably for the intake to not develop a leak or something but I didn't do that and my 4.0 runs fine 10k miles later

One thing to remember working on a Cologne engine like a 4.0, Before you teke it apart order a set of NEW Head bolts, the when you disassemble REMEMBER to throw away the old ones, DO NOT be tempted to reuse them, they are a "single use item"
