My credo
Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
Hello,
In an effort to root out the variety of bug-a-boos in my 4.0l powered BroncoII, I have gone to my go-to manufacturers for parts. I have a short list that I felt I could rely on...this situation exists no more.

ORDERED:
fire resistant split wire loom, wire loom wrap, water pump, hose clamps, thermostat + gasket/seal, starter relay, starter and remanufactured 1994 California emissions PCM:

• Gates is now made China
• Motorcraft is made in Mexico
• Bosch is made in China or made outside the US and assembled in the USA
• Cardone is looking solid, they refurbished the PCM but I have no idea where it was accomplished.
*since I am overtly whining, if a product wasn't further mention, it performed at or above my expectations.

The worst is the new Gates T-stat, it looks like chrome plated stamped steel... I've never seen a thermostat that wasn't made of the stainless steel??? Talk about engineering in a problem!

I laid out +$55 extra to own some assurance with my new Bosch starter only to learn that it was made in China; I even had to change the connector for the trigger wire 🤦. The machining was acceptable but the casting is rough...I would never strike this with a hammer.

This has to be a blooming problem for our nation's GNP and our workforce! 😭😭😭

If we got rid of OSHA, the EPA, labor unions, and living wages the U.S. could compete with China. I don't believe anyone wants that but buying Chinese products is voting with our money for it. Unfortunately it's hard to find domestic products sometimes. The Bosch refrigerator in my kitchen cost almost double what the Mexican built Kitchen Aid unit it replaced cost. I did not know Bosch was built in China and wasn't pleased to find out.

It was explained to me that when it comes to refrigerators and freezers that no matter what company “makes” them, the compressors pretty much all come from China. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Mexican or Korean or whatever branded fridge, the compressor was from China.

I’ve also run into the sort of thing like Blackstone grills claim USA made, but their portable grills are all made in China, it’s only the ones for your patio that are made here. I ended up buying a portable flat top from Sam’s Club that is nearly identical to a Blackstone, probably made from the same China factory.

The whole parts thing is a mess. EPA half helps/half destroys like a lot of government agencies. I’ve seen that in action.
