I have a leaking fuel rail on a customer's vehicle. We have another one around, but I do not think it is in much better shape. I suspect the metal is in bad shape inside. New ones are available for $370, which the customer does not want to spend.

Can I just take the oxy torch and braze this thing closed? It's a pretty small hole. I understand that is pretty dangerous, but on the other hand I really want this truck to just burst into flames and explode.

I've silver soldered pieces together to make adapters for the fuel lines on my race truck. I believe brazing is stronger. It comes down to a liability issue, if the customer agrees and signs a waiver. . Make sure to document everything and take pics too. But if something bad happens no paperwork is likely to help. It sucks that society is sue happy and is why I do my own work as much as possible, I can't afford to pay a mechanic to put in new stuff.
I don't know if my rambling made sense, my fingers can't keep up to my thoughts.
Good luck,

Richard

Now the other question is this.

With the engine running it sprays out as a fairly fine mist, almost like what I would expect to see from a fuel injector. Can I braze it with the engine running so that I can see exactly where the hole is?

My original assessment of this truck was "There is a hole in the #4 piston. If we go any farther we will loose money on the job and never get rid of the guy"

A day later I was told to put an engine in it. The guy supplied his own engine that is (as if it were actually possible) rustier than the truck itself. The guy has been in at least 2 to 3 times a day since we have had it. Tonight he stopped at about 4:30 and said that I should have just struck the match while it was running. Even he is starting to hate this truck.

sounds like that customer needs to be fired.....

What is the vehicle that the customer can't get a fuel rail from the same place he acquired the engine?

You know what Red Green would do in a situation like this......

We have the rail from the "new" engine and used it originally but 3 injectors died within a day of it running, and they were all right next to each other, so I am not too confident that the inside of that other rail is any good.

Spend his money and get a better fuel rail.

None of those ideas sound real safe or smart...

I think I'll go ahead and cast my vote for JB weld if you wanna swing for the fences of failure. It might work but it won't get your face blown off.

maybe a person with the authority to do so can arrange a discount on the part.

perhaps the dealers cost plus a massive ten gallon pot of stew for lunch one day for everyone at your place of employment?

Is it in a place where you could put a patch with a hose clamp on it?
