How exactly do I get that "snap ring" off? Is it easier just to break it off and find a formidable replacement?

you mean the rod from the clutch master cylinder under the dash?
this is how I pulled just the rod out. 1/4 ID brass tubing, slide it down along the shaft to release the spring clips.

the small end is what's inside the cylinder.

If you mean the plastic clip on the pin on the clutch pedal, I managed to get mine disconnected without breaking it (I don't remember how though, either ziptie tails or a pick or two), but if you do break it don't sweat it, if you go to the Help! section rack thing in most auto parts stores the bushings are there for like $5...

Can you please describe your issue in more detail so we know exactly what you are trying to get apart this way we may better help you. Right now we can only guess as to what you need help with because your question is so unclear.

Thank you.

On a '99, that's the only rod in the clutch system, both posts cover one end of the same rod so hopefully that helps :)

But yes, if that isn't what you mean, do elaborate and we will try to help better...

Thanks for your help everybody! I decided just to rip the whole thing out and I ordered a new one going to start over fresh.

I usually just break em off and get #6C3Z-7A581-A from the dealer.

oops, wrong rod. sorry 'bout that.
while it's possible to pry the 2 short lock tabs open it's much easier to stick a screwdriver in there and force it off.
