i cannot for the life of me get my remote oil filter to stop leaking. It appears to be leaking out the fittings. Whats the trick to get em to stop leaking? I got my hoses on there TIGHT, always leaks :icon_twisted:

check the threads and use teflon tape or liquid teflon onthem. other than that, common sense should fix it.

already tried teflon but no luck. im thinking my barb fittings aren't sharp enough, since they are old as shit..and im gonna try some better hose clamps and not the screw in type.

You may have them on too tight. If you over tighten the clamps on the hose, the hose tends to flare out and allow fluids past. Replace the hoses, and and clamp them firmly. Dont crank the piss out of 'em.

If your still leaking, Id go buy another kit. Hell, they are only like $30 at Summit Racing Equipment. And you can buy just the block adapter, or the filter mount only.

IN MY OPINION! This is junk!

I can handle the adapters, but the sheetmetal screws, hoses and fittings have got to go! I don't care for teflon tape in this application. I prefer to use pipe dope where the adapter fittings go into the oil filter adapters. I use copper antiseize where the hose end fittings attach to the adapter fittings.
Always remember to "double wrench" when attaching the hoses. An open end wrench on the adapter fitting and an open end wrench on the hose end fitting. If you torque on the oil filter adapter mounting as you tighten the hoses (with a single wrench) IT WILL BREAK (its just "pot metal")! You will not be happy! There is a pic posted in one of the links below showing you what I mean!
IN MY OPINION! This is the way to go.

yeah im pretty much never mounting an oil filter by my tire

hey Wade, are those power steering lines that you used? I like that idea of the lines screwing instead of clamping.

that or get 8AN lines and fittings from summit

No. I went to a local supplier and had them make up the -8AN high pressure hydraulic hoses for me. About $80. 90°s at the filter end, 45°s at the block adapter. Had to "play" with them to get the lengths and fitting angles right. They do not touch or rub anywhere along their lengths. At least 1/4" clearance to closest interference.
mounting an oil filter by my tire
is not even a concern. The neatest, cleanest oil filter change I've ever done! I wish I could take credit for the idea of putting it there, but can't. (Got the idea from Pinellas50.) I'm a 4X2 daily driver and not a mudder - works fine! - last a long time! My biggest concern is the o-ring at the block.

drive by....oooooooo KKKKKKK??? im just saying its a little to easy for a tire to kick something up into it for me, but whatever works

wade has a setup similar to mine, and its good, but i put it up and under the battery tray.

mudder, go to the parkerstore and have em make ya some hoses...mine were like 40 bux, plus 20 for fittings. two 3 footers should get ya over the rail and under the tray.

Just messin' with ya'. I deleted it - didn't mean to be offensive.

If foreign object damage is (was) a concern, screw clamp a piece of sheet aluminum around it. (Or, one of those silly "oil coolers" that clamps around the filter.) Motorcraft makes (or at least, used to make) one of the heaviest gauge filter shells on the market, if that strikes your fancy. When it comes to filters, the only thing I'm leary of is Fram. But, their customer service was very prompt to reimburse me about $40 for expenses incurred due to a defective filter on a Windstar with the filter tucked up inside the frame. I expressed my gratitude, and now I prefer Puralator or Motorcraft.

Ditto on what Wade did with the hoses. I did mine like that first off and ain't had a leak since (7 years ago)

cracked the block adaptor on accident. I never could get it to stop leaking after trying to re-do it. Im looking to buy a new kit now. I saw some trans-dapt ones on Summit and they have the filter lines with built on threaded fittings. What kits out there are actually good and wont leak?

None I've seen. If you want no leaks you have to assemble the kit yourself. Use the TD block piece and filter mount and assemble the hoses with AN style fittings.
