I'm in the process of remodeling my lower level and turning it into a master suite. I'm trying to put in a whirlpool tub. I've got the area all ripped apart before I found out the price of the tub. Those things are between $2000-$4000 for a fairly decent one. I just spend $4500 on new kitchen appliances and have to put hard wood flooring in the kitchen and dining room next week. Between the remodel and the wedding I'm bleeding cash out of every orifice. This doesn't even take into account the 20x50 garage I'm building next summer (she gets the kitchen and bathroom redone and I get my garage). Could someone please supply me with some winning lottery numbers or at least a place to get a decent tub at a fair price.

When I worked for a local modular home company they used to have inventory sales to get rid of the excess inventory which wasn't needed for jobs. I saw this whirlpool tub with a deckmount faucet and the pump that ended up selling for only $50 because the homeowner wanted the faucet on the other side and it was already drilled out and installed. Check to see if you have any homebuilders around that have inventory sales like that. Also I have seen some in my area selling on craigslist for reasonable prices. I only know this because I too am in the process of remodeling a huge house with 5 bathrooms and was considering installing one and I feel your pain because i'm in the same situation, every week i'm dumping whatever extra cash I make into the place.

I didn't even think of craig's list. I'll give it a look. As for the homebuilders selling inventory, I wouldn't even begin to know where to look.

5 bathroom? I thought I had it bad with one. The kitchen is going to be fun also. I forgot about new counter tops.

Yeah four of the five bathrooms are all old ceramic tile and I still haven't decided what exactly to do because they just look so nice and i'm afraid of bastardizing something that i'd regret later. The thing that really sucked was that the previous owner had cut out the water supply lines to several bathrooms, including the one on the 3rd floor and also reversed the hot and cold on one bathroom when he did a little remodeling work of his own. It had my head spinning for a while just trying to undo his mess and make everything right and leak-proof. I plan on splitting the place up a little to make rentals before I move in just so that I can get a little extra income to also help with remodeling but the problem is getting over that financial hump in the beginning. Still though i'm only paying 450/mo for 7 years and then i'll own a 4000 sq. ft. property, atleast that's what I keep telling myself. Also I just remembered about this one auction coming up in my area on the 7th, maybe they'll have one in your area so check out the link below. It's all new building materials that were discontinued and sometimes they have tools too.

New counter tops? What type? Add in another couple grand...

Sounds like you have some fun things planned..

I appreciate the input. It sounds like you have nothing but fun ahead of you also.

I'm not sure what she's settled on. I'm sure it won't be cheap. She'll probably want granite. I do admit the old ones look like crap and the old floors are in poor shape. The appliances were needed. The tub on the other hand, I could do without. But what the hell. I still get my garage.

All the flooring is out down stairs and ready for carpet. I just have to put up a couple walls and put in a tub. I also have to re rock the entire lower level. The flooring is out up stairs and the wood floors are going in next week hopefully then I can get the appliances in. The 10 yard dumpster is 7/8th full. I never thought this was going to be as big as it's become. What was I thinking?

We (meaning my fiancé') have also decided on a counter top so I can get that ordered! This place isn't going to look like a bachelor pad anymore. Good bye inflatable couch!

I also misspelled "Hemorrhage" in the title. Can someone change it?

Jay,are you doing most of the work yourself?

Just rent the movie "The Money Pit" or the even better original "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" and have a beer. :icon_cheers:

Love both movies. If you ain't eating Wam,you ain't eating Ham.

if the garage if for wrenching then think about going 25ft deep rather than 20ft capt'n.

i found out the hard way that its a little tight for comfort with the sliding doors closed and the usual accumulation of "stuff" in the shop

2-5-4-8-6-9

there you go ...... I know about as much about remodeling as I know about rebuilding a carburetor but lottery on the other hand ........ well I haven't won yet but I haven't played those numbers yet either.

I hate houses. I don't like the idea of putting money and work into something that can't move. If I change my mind about being somewhere, all the nice stuff I did is left behind. I have a house now because I'm raising kids and that requires one.

About 50/50. Two of the guys who are in my upcomming wedding are contractors. That helps a LOT.

Don't need to rent it. I'm living it.

It's going to be 20 wide and 50 deep. I'd like bigger but I have to worry about zoning laws. Max 1000 sq. ft. 6ft from the property line and 3 ft from the house.
