Relieving Fuel Pressure? 91 4.0L Ranger

The switch prevents a fire at the scene of the accident. If there's not a fuel leak, the switch can be temporarily reset so the vehicle can be driven away for repair. Once it's been tripped, it's not designed to be continuously reused (the switch should be replaced).

The purpose of the inertia switch is to kill the pump in case of an accident, in order to prevent fuel spillage and/or fire.

So, since they put a reset on it in order to drive it from an accident, doesnt it kind of defeat the purpose if fuel really was leaking?

They were hoping that whoever pushes the reset has at least 1/2 ounce of common sense. Bad assumption. But it is what it is.

This is the fuse I'm talking about. It's the fuse for the fuel relay, not the relay itself, but it sounds like it will work just as good. I might remove the box anyway just to see if it does have the connector type relay underneath.

If fuel leaking was a problem, how would 4.0 owners get anywhere?

It does.

That style box has the older style relays clipped to the under side.
