I can't seem to make up my mind. I want something with a lot of bite, but won't get chewed away on the road. I'm looking to down size some now that I have a boat and the truck is the towing rig, so 12.5 to 13.5 are my limits. 15s are too erratic driving with a load.
The truck is only a towing and trail rig, towing is only done once a week up to 2 times per month, and only during the summer/fall.

I like the Mickey Thompson Baja line, they have great tread and side wall lugs. The Bajas I'm running now are pretty quiet, and for being bald up front perform very well off road.

I'm also looking at super swamper ssr radials, but I'm not liking the lack of side wall lugs.

I just want the biggest bite possible.
I need to get some tires before the first week of September.

Most aggresive looking ON-road mud tire to me is nitto mud grappler.

Longest lasting good perfoming mud tire is BFG Mud-terrain or Toyo Mt

Best Performing mud tire of all time is Bogger's.

Now If your looking for a good road mud tire, stay away from swampers. I'm not hatin on swamper's I run them on everything I got, they just dont last on the highway. Asking peoples opinion on tires is pretty much asking them there opinion on the best motor. Its always gonna be an arguement.

I have owned 37X12.50XR17 BFG M/Ts and they were great and quite just not wide enough for my liking. I then ran 38X15.5XR17 Parnelli Jones M/Ts they were louder than the BGF but ALOT quiter than Nitto Mud Grapplers, and the PJs must be rotated VERY often they! I now run 38X15.5XR20 Toyo Open Country M/Ts and by far are the best tire i ever owned. Very quite for there size and wear great, i have 20Kish on them and they still look new!

A big part of your poor tracking and towing ability is the BIAS tires your running, going to any radial mud terrain is going to be a vast improvement.

I love my rocker radials, the only problem is your not going to be able to find any unless they have made more. I was hearing late august back in april when I got mine but haven't looked into it since

x3 on the Rocker radials. Or the BFG MT KM2's look like they're a great tire, but I have no experience with them, only the KM.

Anyone have experience with these tires?
138 a piece, the cheapest tire I've seen, hell, my car's tires cost me almost that much a piece.

This says there on the lower end of the mud tire spectrum...and check out the top three...swampers ...swampers...goodyear mtr...which is the same tread pattern and treadwright guard dogs:

140 bucks a piece...not too bad...those exact tires are going to be my next set. I have no experience with them. Just something to think about. Can't argue with the cost

Edit: Didn't read the whole...first week of september thing. Guess that rules my suggestion out

those guard dogs are almost exactly like the old mtr's

That's a fine tire right there, next on my list in fact.

would upgrading to 16 inch rims give you more options? just a thought.
I'm running 16" rims, from what I've found, 16's are a pain in the ass to find tires for. Not that they aren't readily available, but they're more expensive.

From what I understand, 15" rims are the defacto standard for off road. Plus, you get more cushion when you air down with 15's. That's how I understand it anyway. Don't take anything I say as gospel.

But I do like those BFG MT's, they look great and a buddy of mine has them on his yoda and he was having far less traction issues on the trails than I was with my AT's.

Hmmm, looking at the link posted above, the GY MTR's look interesting. Too bad I'm not a rich man where I can just try them all LOL.

I expect they are all pretty close to the same if you're looking at road use too. I've seen some negative posts here regarding GoodYear Tires, but of course that's always subjective.

the main reason 16's are more expensive is because of the ply and load ratings. Usually 15's are 6 ply and load C and 16's will be 8 ply and load D or even load E

With the late model trucks running larger and larger tires, there actually seem to be more options for them IMO.

Kinda think the 15 will be the new 14 before too long...

15's would have more mush to them both on the trail and on trailer pig duty. With a larger rim filling up more of the mush space it would be a more stable set up for pulling a trailer.

Cheap tires are out there if you can wait for them, I found a set of brand new overstock BFG KM1 17's for $125/tire

For the guy looking at the Dick Cepek FC-II for winter... DON'T DO IT. I had those tires on my 92 when I first bought it, and ran them all that winter. I've never had more hair raising winter driving moments in my life than I did that winter. No traction when there's just a skiff of snow, no traction on packed snow, no traction in deep-ish snow... IMO the best 'winter' tire is the BFG A/T.
