Rear shackle mounts ?

My question today is; were the original rear spring mounts done with the shackles on top? The shackles are on the bottom of nearly every picture I see.

Although they're rusty, they have been replaced and there's bolts on both, of these should we flip them side-to-side when we do some other work under the truck? Yes the back is low, very low, and barely 2" between the frame and the bump stock which gets bumped quite often because the springs are totally straight (I have long add a leaf springs waiting to go on.)

The shackle mount on the frame, then the shackle, then the spring eye is stock.

So, almost everybody's flips the mounts so shackle is on the bottom? obviously to get more lift.

No, I put things in order from top to bottom. If the shackle is on top of the shackle mount then you lose height, like the lowriders do.
Chevy half tons have the shackle on top. Ford's on the bottom.

Well duh! Not only are my springs weak, my shackle mounts are upside down!

The best is the E series van with rear HVAC... when the drivers side shackle fails the spring crushes the heater and A/C lines.

He had a GMC Safari all-wheel drive van for years, the rear AC only worked one year. ?

I have a friend with a 94 series F250, looks nice, body lift and big tires. His drivers side front spring hanger failed and spring eye is crushed against fuel fill hose for front fuel tank. I’ve never seen a truck look so good on the outside and look like hell underneath. Was weird doing a tuneup on it, body being higher than normal, would have been easier changing plugs through the wheel wells.

We did the right mount last fall it's a beech of a job! the spring eye bushing turned out to be rather easy because it was so badly rusted, we a drilled the rbber and the sleeve, what was left of it popped right out! so all the mounts have been replaced the frame is rusty as hell, but not cracked... yet

I’ve found the best way to get at things is to pull the bed off. I did all 4 on the 93 4x I had. Rear hangers went first. Hardest one is drivers side front because of the gas tank. Ranger I have now has had the worst frame but I’ve since seen even worse trucks when I’ve been at a junkyard getting parts. Either the steel is getting crappier on vehicles or the road salt is getting more corrosive, maybe both. Saw one truck where front rib on bed was gone, hold down bolts to frame were sticking up like they weren’t tight. From the outside it looked ok. Used to be the outer body showed rust worse than the undercarriage.

Totally agree! One of the reasons I'm tickled that I can now drive the truck without it shaking apart, my friend. A pretty damn good welder is in the Poconos so it's a hundred mile trip one way he helped me or should I say he changed out the transmission while I was supposed to be handing him tools and he wouldn't even let me do that! but I did get to put the two bolts in the top of the bellhousing by laying across the engine!

So we're going to take the bed off and weld some steel, also going to replace the filler neck and fuel pump,

almost every offroad guy out here runs the hanger under the shackle ( shackle on top) for better leaf spring movement and travel. but that probably isnt ideal with stock leafs cuz its probably sitting really low. all after market deaver spring packs are designed to be used with the shackle on top

I saw one of those at the dealership once.

My work order read "Customer requests we fix the bump in the bed liner" I pulled it in and the "bump" was where the spring was sticking through the bed. I fell on the ground laughing.
