The rear axle shafts on my Ranger are all chewed up where the axle bearings ride. I have a 1991, 4.0L, 28-spline, 8.8" open rear end with 3.55s. I wanted to know if the axle shafts are the same if I get them out of a 28-spline 7.5" rear end. From what I found in the tech library, it seemed to me that any 1983-92, 28-spline axles would work regardless of ring gear size. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks alot.

Yes, you are correct. They use the same axle shafts.

as long as they are ranger shafts, then yes, that is correct

1993 and later shafts however will not work, they are longer.

Bronco2 shafts are also not the same. (Actually the left side shaft is but the right side shaft is longer)

Thanks guys. Now, to go find a good set.

Do you guys think $100 for a set is a good price out of a scrapyard?

I bought a complete explorer 8.8 with a limited slip for $115, but that's a U pull yard...
