Really Discouraged . . .

i wont lie my fabrication skills are limited and tooling is almost non existant, if i could weld to go along w/ my measuring and mechanical experience i could do some serious stuff, just never had the time or money to take the classes. raw material is also very dif to find these days for cheap too...hell copper wire alone for wiring is enuff to break my bank.

I thought I should update everyone . . .

After removing the heater fan completely, the M 90's intake tube fits without rubbing against anything. The vibration I'd experienced, especially between 1 500 and 1 800 rpm is now gone, so now I can hear that lovely gear whine of which I am so fond!

I'm still not completely sure of my pulley alignment. Everything lines up when I put the laser on it, or at least it SEEMS to, but the belt still looks like it's got a wee bit of a bend in it. This is very slight, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see . . .

What's really nice about the way my truck is running right now, is that as long as I keep my foot out of it, the machine is nice and docile. However, if I need to climb a hill or if I've got a load in the bed, I can open the throttle and it suddenly feels like I've got a completely different engine under the hood.

I was supposed to go over to a friend's shop today to inquire about fabricating a remote mount for my heater fan, but I've got NO time this afternoon. That's going to have to wait until later on in the week, at the earliest.

Sounds like things are finally looking up. Very excited to hear it!

Thank you! I'm supposed to drive up to Williams Lake in 2 weeks for "Face to Face" week with my online students. However, I'm not confident in my truck's reliability. I'd hate to get stuck somewhere between Clinton and 100 Mile House with ANOTHER shredded belt!

Just take a 6 pack (of belts :D ) with you just in case. It only takes, what, 10 minutes to change one? That's easily done on the side of the road.

At over $40 a pop? If I had THAT kind of money, I'd have paid a professional to do my project FOR me!!!

the thought of packing belts w/ you is amusing and i see your concern. when aligning the belts w/ the laser are you measuring w/ one spot on the pulley or multiple spots? id do 4 places on the pulley faces to doublecheck alignment, one on each end about a quarter inch from the belt edge and then two closer to the center of the pulleys, crossways if possible too. kind of wish i had a way of showing you what im talking about.

Hey robert, I was working on a friends jeep TJ today and noticed that the heater fan is TINY. You may want to swing by the junkyard and take a look at one to see if it will work for your application. it looks like the little one pictured on this page http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1i/bl793i.htm

Have you considered something brutally crude but effective?

Put three 1/8" thick fender washer between the motor mount and motor mount bracket and raise the engine 3/8" in the engine bay relative to the blower motor

It might work to just raise the passenger side of the engine and cant the engine that much to the drivers side.

thats actually a good idea... raise the whole engine to get the clearance rather than just the SC and then you wont change the alignment on the pulleys...

Raising the whole engine means I'll have trouble shutting the hood again. I'm going to have a look at the wrecking yard and see if the Jeep fans are small enough to install without any further modification. The Cadillac one I bought only sticks out 1.25 inches from the fan housing. If it were .5 an inch narrower, it would fit without trouble.

I'm still REALLY paranoid about belt alignment. I keep waiting for the engine to throw another one . . .

Did you consider taking your upper plenum and 180 it, removing the plumbing from that side of the engine bay altogether??

No, I don't want to go through all that trouble. I've been running the truck without the heater fan for about a month now, and it seems ok. I still intend to fix the issue with the fan, but I want to make sure I've got the belt problem solved. So far, so good!

I'm also dealing with some tuning issues. I'm finding the engine much more difficult to tune now that I'm using the bigger throttle body.

Out of curiousity, when you hit a hill or pull a load can you ease into the power with the supercharger or does it hit all at once?

The reason I ask is my IHI is like a switch, any load on the engine, hill, etc and it wants to go full bore. I would like something that I can ease into more while hitting hills on the hwy ect. If I only need 1-2 psi then I get that and not 8-10.

Also what pulley size did you end up with and what boost does it get you? If I remember right you and Dave calculated that the stock supercharger pulley would have netted you around 15 psi, is that right?

Are you still getting good mpg with it and are you runing EGR?
