looking to re gear my rear axle to run 33' tires.

the current running gear in my truck is 4.0 motor, 5r55e auto trans, 8.8 3.73 L/S rear end. i will be doing 60% Daily street driving and 40% mountain/desert dirt roads.

what are my options?

thanks for the help

your looking at probably 4:56 gears. thats my choice. i prefer 4:88s for some low end power but your top end suffer dramatically. roughly 65 to 70 mph at 3300 rpm

c_notes got it... 4.56s would be right for what you like to do. With a 4.0 and auto you could run 4.10s if you did all freeway driving.

so i am looking at 4.10 to 4.56. that's what i was thinking i would need. but right now i am looking at gas millage.

what would be the best way to go about this?

find an explorer axle or just buy the gears from yukon.

What kind of driving do you do, highway or city? Are your roads flat or winding and hilly? If you have any terrain to where you live, go with the 4.56's like c-note said. If it is flat 4.10's, are the way to go. You may be able to find an axle with gears installed if you can wait and watch around for one.

If you do absolutely nothing but drive flat straight freeways... go 4.10s... if you are going to climb a hill...hit the dirt... anything other then just rock the highway get 4.56's.

4.88's would be nice if you did a lot more wheeling.... but you would sacrifice gas mileage.

I would definitely go with 4.56's for general use with those tires.
