I'm in the market for a truck and was recently out of town on a business trip and came across a '94 Ranger with a manual transfer case so I had to check it out. It drove pretty great and loved the feel of the manual transmission and manual transfer case engagement. You just don't get that satisfaction at the push of a button.
Problems with the truck -
Hail damage on the hood
Paint/clearcoat wasn't great, but I don't care about that so much
A/C wasn't working. Didn't expect it to, but I'd probably end up fixing it.
Power windows didn't work. Hit the switch and no response at all. Motor didn't even click, so I'm thinking bad switch or blown fuse. Opinions? This was a large factor in not buying as I didn't want to drive 4 hours home with no AC and the windows up.
Could see where there had been fluid around the rear diff. Didn't want to get into rear end trouble on my drive home.
It ran and drove much better than I expected. The 4.0 idled pretty smoothly. There was a good amount of ticking on startup, but after it ran for about 2 minutes it got quiet and smooth. It has 155,000 miles on it. Single cab XLT, power windows, power locks, fog lights that were rusted and no longer working, but the basics are there to work with.
He was asking $4,000. I got him down to $3,300, but chickened out and drove my Kia rental back home. Now I'm regretting it because I liked that transfer case so much more than a push button or turny knob. Should I go back and get it? Just about all of you deal with the electronic transfer cases so maybe I should suck it up and do the same. Does this truck seem rough for the price or is that what I'm going to pay for one in this shape?
Thanks
