is there anyone on the forums use their truck/explorer/sport track for SKYWARN or personal use fire dept? looking for pics of your lights and radio setups. I'm looking for ideas to update my truck
tks in advance.

i'm a skywarn observer. i use portable radios. i don't use any emergency beacons or anything like that as they are illegal here in Mn. same for volunteer firefighters/emt's. i did that as well for 18 years here. they also don't allow the use of scanners in private vehicles at all. i know... it really sucks.

Here in PA we can use em for civilian use. With the fire department you can use red if your a fireman (job), and blue if you are fireman (volunteer), and anyone is allowed to use yellow her ein Wellsboro =P. Jason and I rode around town with my egg-light for a while doing some errands and people did not even give us a second glance =P.

I let him borrow it to have some fun =)

You can ONLY use green here in this area IF your a forrester though >.> So beware.

I've been a volunteer firefighter for 23 years, just recently found an interest in skywarn. just wondered what everyone was set up like? i have the county fire and ems radio and run red lights/siren.( assistant chief ) i was wondering about the skywarn comunication or equipment..

other than the regular frequencies for the NWS broadcasts, ham operators provide most of the communications. they get info to the NWS from the skywarn spotters when tornadoes have been sited and when power is out due to storms, floods, etc. you'll have to check with your local NWS and they will give you info on frequencies the ham's use and phone numbers to contact the local ham club. they will help you get set up with your own radio if you wish. good luck!

thanks strvger, i was looking online for the ham radio study guide, would like to read up a little before jumping in to that. the cell numbers for nws or a ham communications center for skywarn would be an awesome bonus for me right now. is there anyone on here actually part of skywarn in the western pa eastern oh area that could pm me and help out a fellow firefighter?

tks strvger just trying to get a better idea how to be more involved with the nws/skywarn and have the communications to do so.
