Rangers no longer made: What used Ranger to buy?

Is the 302 a crate motor? EFI?
These come out of Mustangs?

They come out of just about everything Ford made for quite awhile.

The 5r55e is not the best transmision ford ever produced, usually doesnt last much longer than 130 or 150k at best. 1st gear has a tendency to blow up under heavy use, and 3rd gear is 2nd gear and over drive put together. but i put mine through some good abuse and it never blew up on me. if your doing alot of highway driving you should be more then fine

They are just about the best automatic Ford ever poked into a Ranger though.

Personally if I was to get a newer Ranger I would get a 3.0, more power (abit not much) than a 4cyl and they don't have the problems that the SOHC 4.0 has. I would also be keeping my feelers out for a nice low mile rear ended 5.0 Explorer just in case the 3.0 happened to irritate me one too many times. :icon_thumby:

This... but the 4.0 OHV is tops by many RBV lovers. I should have specified OHV in my original post.

I couldn't own the SOHC version either. I sense a timing chain overhaul coming on my Dads Explorer. It's rattling.

I haven't been particularly impressed with either setup. I wouldn't avoid the OHV as much but I still wouldn't really seek it out.
