Something different: We just got back from vacation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile. Among the 1,000 or so pictures I took are some of local Rangers I spotted on the street. Ford is a pretty popular vehicle in South America, much more than Chevy (which mostly puts the bow tie on European-based Opel models). So here are a few.

Over in La Boca (a working-class neighborhood in Buenos Aires) was this Ranger, which must be some sort of airport truck.

One day in Parque Tres de Febrero (February 3rd Park) was this similar model, looking a bit cleaner.

I'm not sure if this is a diesel or gas 3.0, probably diesel.

In Santiago, I saw this more civilian-based Ranger.

No so unusual, except for this badge. (Stand proud, 3.0 owners!)

In general, trucks don't seem to be a leisure-based vehicle but more work-oriented. But this is in some very big cities, so if a family only has one vehicle, a sedan makes more sense. I'm sure out in the countryside it's different.

If you're interested I can show you the REALLY cool thing they have in Argentina . . . Ford Falcons like you never saw!

the power stroke electronic is a turbo diesel engine, we have em over here too, those things are beasts!!!

u should check out the farming areas there, thats the true ranger habitat

Los Falcons

Cool; I wasn't sure if you guys would be interested or not. Anyway, here are the Falcons. In 1962 Ford started building Falcons in Argentina, and eventually built about 500,000 of them there. Unlike in the U.S., they kept the original, 1960 sedan body and just kept modifying it until they stopped in 1991.

Here's a late-'60s vintage.

Pretty similar in style to the U.S. version at this point.

They kept the straight-6 the whole time. I'm not sure if this one is modified to run on some other fuel.

Later, they started to modify the front and rear ends, and the dashboard/interior. Also, the c-pillar looks like they added some sort of flow-through ventilation fins.

This one was up in Tigre, a town about 20 miles north of Buenos Aires on the delta (lots of interconnected waterways).

This car was very clean; gotta love that original Falcon script.

Not everyone loves Falcons there, though. In the '70s the secret police drove dark-green Falcons. When they showed up it was a good chance the goons would be taking you away, not to be seen again. Next I'll show you a Ranchero, a late-model wagon and a cool Ford Taunus, sort of their version of a Mustang.

3.0 powerstroke, why wont the man allow you in my state?

Los Otros Fords

The downside to a lot of diesel vehicles seems to be air quality. I have to say that walking all around Buenos Aires I was suffering from "bad air syndrome" from the fumes. (However, the streets there can be VERY wide, like 9 de Julio, which is 18 lanes across, the word's widest.)

Here are some other gems I spotted. A Ranchero, quite beat-up but still cool (I think the bed sides look higher than in the U.S.). Those extra fuel tanks are popular (every taxi trunk I saw had one).

Love the nameplate:

Now this, I could really go for. It's very late-model, probably about 1990. The 3.0 badge works out to about 183 cubic inches, but they built other sixes with up to 221 cubic inch displacements.

Finally, this is a Ford Taunus, a sporty model with a 2.3 4-cylinder engine. I think it's rear wheel drive.

I checked Ford's Brazilian website to confirm, and it's a diesel. You can also get an f-250 with a Cummins diesel there too.

You can also get a four-door ranger with the 3.0 diesel off-road package, but it costs $57,000 US.

Not sure about Brazil, but in Argentina, a double-cab 4x4 3.0 diesel "XL Plus" (about midway in the line) goes for $109K in Argentine pesos, or about $24K U.S. (list price, of course). The cheapest Ranger is a single-cab, 2.3 4x2, listing for about $14K.

I want one!

Especially the rear end.

F-250 with a 4BT? You think that would be cool... I don't think 120hp in a 3/4 ton truck is cool, lol... Neither is everything else about it... Leaf sprung front suspension...

Cool pictures!! Thanks for sharing!

I had to check this whole 'cummins in a ford' thing out. Turns out it's a 3.9L Cummins in the F250. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the same displacement as the 4BT? I wonder if that engine is the 4BT or if it's a 4cyl version of the Common Rail or.... ??

The same 4BT found in the UPS guys truck or the bread man's truck. I don't see the issue with it....

just goes to show that you need to either live over seas or south of Texas to get anything cool.

those are some cool pics. im diggin all of them, id like to have one of the frist 3 :D
