Rangers del Sur: Argentina and Chile

ever stopped to think about how much US spec diesels are when compared to other country spec diesels? The regulations? The needs of the consumer base? I would think having the 4BT down there is not an issue...it does it's job, it's obviously not towing 15,000 lbs down there, isn't part of a torque war with other truck compeditors/other brands, and doesn't have to deal with the aweful emissions it has to deal with here. From a money and customer 'need' standpoint, ford has a good thing going down there. It's probably not a HUGE market for those trucks compared to the states.

I wonder why nobody makes a diesel in the Ranger/Colorado/Canyon/Tacoma class of pickups. I guess sales wouldn't justify the development/certification cost. And to get that we'd need $4.00/gallon gas for an extended period of time - no thanks.
