Rangers are fuel efficient?

The only Ranger that gets good mpg is a 4 banger and those are only 2wd since about 96 or 97. Which as mentioned is one reason why they don't sell so great any more. Once you move up to a V6 and/or 4wd, the mpg isn't much better than an F150. Ditto my Sport Trac vs. an F150 Crew Cab.
Driven RBV's since '99. A lot of the streets where I live and work are narrow and a full size would often be a PITA to get around in. A full size would not fit in my garage. I rarely need a full size, so I save what gas I can.

Unloaded and driving at the posted, my 88 4X4 2.9 AOD gets about 24 mpg. Fortunatly my commute mis mostly highway. BUT if I load the cap and put a 3,500 pound trailer on the back, it has dropped as low as 14. But then again I was trying to keep up to my buddies Silverado and trailer. Never did get close enough to draft!:annoyed:

My 2000 Ranger gets 15-17 mpg.... if I'm towing one of my BII's behind it!!

235/75/15 tires, 3.73 gears, 5-speed, 3.0L and I'm not afraid to put my foot in it.

With an aluminum work cap and about 500# of extra gear I averaged 19mpg around town and about 25mpg highway.

When I went to a soft Tonneau cover and dropped down to about 200# in extra gear I went to 21-23mpg around town and 26-31mpg highway.

Yes, I did get 31 mpg highway. Pretty much completely empty bed but I had two people in the truck, windows down, total highway. Filled up and promptly jumped on the highway for a 100 mile trip out to Summit Racing for their annual Truckfest. Filled up when I got back and calculated it out. I often hit around 28 highway as well.

My choptop is around 19/20mpg last time I checked... and it doesn't really do highway (needs an alignment and some radials instead of unbalanced bias plys if I want to top 60 mph).

I don’t get whats going on with my mileage. All you guys are getting around 20 with v6's...

I'm getting 18-19 with an 89 2.3 5 speed single cab long bed. 3.45 rear end. The thing runs mint, it passed emissions cleaner than any car I've ever owned. I don’t have big tires on it, and I don’t drive it like I stole it... it just doesn’t add up, wtf!

Tires inflated properly? Fluids fresh and clean? Valves and sensors functioning properly? Tailgate up or down? (Up is better).

I get 20mpg consistently in mine; 2.3L lima short bed.
