ranger refit/build thread

Did I miss anything except the boats?
jeez,i don't know.i have a hard time keeping track.oh,and that aint an mpv...it's a right hand drive toyota town ace, turbo diesel.
Also don't forget his custom tools, one of which is his 1000 gal ford 2.9L powered air compressor that is lubricated with hopes and dreams. :headbang:

the dreams got dashed away,so now it's mostly hopes keeping it going.

Ah right my bad. But that sounds much more badass than an MPV.

Sounds like my truck lol!

i was actually looking at the dipstick on the compressor today...but i'm afraid to pull it out and check what it has to tell me.i figure if it's still running, why take a chance on messing it up.

still running like a top I assume?

yup...except for a minor computer glitch that goes back to when it was in the b2.every now and then it starts running like a bag of poo-poo all of a sudden.
a quick shutting off and turning back on of the ignition(not letting the engine stop)brings it back in line.while i've considered replacing the ecm,it's not that big of a deal so i just live with it.

otherwise,it runs like a top.and it's one of the few 2.9s i've come across that doesn't have rattly lifters.

thats because it knows to behave around you or it will be turned into something else (again) :icon_twisted:

don't you just love lubricating things with hopes and dreams? i know i do! :D

I know i'm a little late to the party here but that supercharger got me thinking, and i haven't had my morning coffee yet so this could be scary....

With a custom grind, a 1:1 timing set, and some valve work you could make the 460 a 2 stroke. Not only would every down stroke be a power stroke, you would also get 2 cylinders firing at a time and half way through each power stroke (2 cylinders) two more cylinders would be beginning their power stroke.

Whats that have to do with the supercharger? It wouldn't breath at all without one.

Of course your gas tank would need to double in size to get you anywhere and as i recal real estate is already fairly limited. Just a thought i had rolling out of bed.

just when i thought stacked transmissions was insane, a 2 stroke big block is a whole new level! last time people had 2 stoke cars was in east germany before the wall fell...

Detroit still makes 2 stroke diesels, osh kosh buts them in all kinds of heavy equipment. I drove one nearly everyday for several years.

Not a car, but still, they are out there.

some fire trucks are still getting 2 stroker detroits. They have one in my city, sucker is loud as hell.

Probably a Pierce, which is owned by Osh Kosh.

making a 460 into a diesel brings up horrible memories of the gm diesels of the 70's.

as a gas engine, maybe not so bad...but just using regular valves as in a four stroke won't work.you'd never get the needed scavanging, the intake charge would just go right out the exhaust.

ported cylinders would need to be used, and that opens up a whole other can of worms.

glad to see you're thinking,though:icon_thumby:

You'd just have to get the cam grind right, correct? it would have to be no overlap I think.

Nvm that doesn't work, You'd have to seal off the intake ports up top, and make new ports down low so that it intakes at the bottom of the stroke.

DO IT! Can't be as hard as some of the stuff you've done.

Actually don't, I would rather see a V-16 or X-16 or X-32 made from 460s.
