Well I have a 98 ford 3.0 4x4 ranger that I've attempted to replace the fuel filter. I got one of the ends off of the filter but the other side will not come off, yes I have the special removel tool no dice. I'm thinking of doing away with the oem fittings and going with 350 psi fuel hose.I know Dorman makes fuel line repair kits. Has anyone used the high pressure fuel hose in place of oem?

On my 96 I grabbed one of the fuel line tools out of my kit and it went right on and seemed to be the perfect fit. However, I couldn't get it to release either. Then I tried another one that seemed like it was too big, and it came right off. I fought with the first one for at least 10 minutes before I decided to try a bigger size.

Just a thought.

Well I went with a Dorman steel to nylon fuel line with a duckbill fitting instead of the hard to remove stock one. works great and will be easier to change the filter down the road.
