So its my second head gasket blowed since 1 year :@
so i want to go to 4.0l so what exactly i need to get before doing the swap (radiator, fuel pump, tranny, exhaust line, engine mount,...) and do i need to f*ck up with all those wire or its plug n play swap....my truck is a ranger 1991 2.9l and i want to do the swap the fastest and easiest as possible thanks for your help!! :icon_hornsup:

Ps: sorry for my bad english haha i speak french.. :shok:

The 2.9l and 4.0l have the same block so 2.9l trans will mount to 4.0l block and 2.9l motor mounts can be used on 4.0l, but that's the only "easy part".

You pretty much need a complete donor vehicle with a 4.0l and it is best if it is '91-'94 model.

Good read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4L_Conversion.shtml

Also remember, you are swapping in a USED engine so it may or may not have problems, always a gamble.
A 2.9l rebuild might serve your needs better.
2.9l has 144 horse power stock
4.0l has 160 HP stock
So a 16HP increase, or about 12%

I would at least look at the cost of a 2.9l rebuild with some "up-grades" for more power vs a swap.

Good read here on 2.9l: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/2_9_Page.shtml
