R8 Axle code on 2008?

Does anyone know whether an R8 axle code from a 2008 Ranger is for sure 31-spline? There is one for sale on ebay but I don't want to pay for shipping if it's a regular 28-spline 8.8".

31 spline is from an Fx4. Is the 2008 Ranger an Fx4 ?

Yeah, it's an FX4 Off-Road... But it is a 2008 (and after the run of the Level 2). I thought the 31-spline was an option on those trucks and not a given... I could be wrong though.

R8 seems to indicate the higher GVWR that would come along with the 31 splines

2009 can be either 28 or 31 spline, I wouldn't count on axle code if paying extra for "maybe" 31 spline

Simple. Ask the Ebay seller to open the diff cover and verify that it is a Torsen "locked" axle, and to send you a picture. That's what I did when I ordered mine from NJ.

Thanks! Those are the pages I was looking at. Yeah I don't know how much faith to put in the axle door code alone. I didn't think about comparing the weight ratings; that makes sense though... Were there ever Ranger 31-spline axles without the Torsen diff?
