l sometimes have difficulty getting the truck to go into first gear when starting from a dead stop.

For example: if l roll to a complete stop in nuetral, when i go to put the truck back into first, there is resistance against the shifter. However, if l:

put a little force into it will go -or-
if it rolls (either forward or backward) a little bit it goes in easy -or-
if l go into 2nd gear first, then into first it goes in easy. (it goes into second gear like normal)

So those are the three ways to get it to engage in first gear. Any ideas on what it could be? Its a 94 4.0 4x4.

l dont know if it is along the same lines, but once and a while the gears will grind when going into reverse. Could this be related?

Thanks in advance.
