Car let me down today, about 95% sure it lost the modulator valve. So since it needs a ton of work/cash (I'm not going to put it back on the road till it's all fixed) I HAVE to put a different vehicle on the road.. hmm.. I wonder what that could be.

RANGERRRRR:headbang:

Anyway, I got started today on getting it ready. I took the cap and bed liner off like I said I was going to. It's actually not as rusted out as I had feared, although eventually I will replace the whole bed instead of the bedsides like I had originally planned. For now I will just patch the rust holes and hope more don't pop up. Here's some pictures of the Ranger and of the bed with the liner out.

Cap off.

Messy. About 5-17 years of dirt and leaf accumulation.

Washed it all down. Found some more rust, and a hole the size of a quarter. I'll thow some cheap pop-up tie downs in the tie down holes. That should hide some of the rust there, and I'll look into replacing all of those torx bolts when I take the bed off to work on the tank and axle. Two are rusted bad but the rest are like new.

Reppin' the NRA! Even though my memberships up.

Took out those old nasty carpet things I had in the back from when I bought my truck and put my FORD mats from the back of my car in there. Looks nicer imo.
Old things.

New mats in the truck.

Packed the back half full of all my junk. Most of the necessities. Spare fluids OIL ESPECIALLY, a funnel, blanket, fishing gear, (the backpack is my tackle box. Best damn thing I ever spent 20 bucks on) and most of my tools that were in my box in the trunk of the car are now in the Ranger's tool box. I've also gotta get my spotlight in there and some other stuff. Eventually I want to pick up an in-bed toolbox to keep the fluids and fishing gear in (if it locks) so I will have a tad more room in there.

I also put my stereo in my truck from my car, simple plug and play since they use the same connectors. Sounds AMAZING in my truck. I always loved how the truck played music, and with the updated stereo it's even better than before. Especially since my Zx2 had two blown speakers in the front.

On the "to-do" list:
--Fix oil pan
--Fix filler neck seal
--Swap axle for higher gears
--Touch up rust spots and scratches
--Replace front bumper
--Replace or "hide" cancerous tailgate
--Pick up tie downs to fill in ugly rusty bed hole things

That's about it for my to-do's. After I get all that done I will start working on the car. I'm aiming to have the Zx2 road ready by winter, since it's unbeatable in snow. If not I will drive the Ranger with studded snows and weight, maybe a locker if my wallet allows. Either way I'll put the car on the road this winter. I want the truck off the road for the spring so I can fix it up right, like I was aiming to do this summer.

Wish me luck guys.

the old cap you had, those are fun when you go camping, you sleep in the bed in a sleeping bag, and have the window open, but still have a screen to keep out bugs, some of those were even insulated.

BTW, remove that bed, clean up the underside, hit a Dollar General or Walmart, and buy some cheap rust-protectant spray paint, and paint her up. (about $3 at General, and $4 or $5 at Walmart).

It's four something at kmart with my sears discount. :D I have some from my Zx2's paint job and my mowers seat left over still. I'll do that when I take the bed off, I didn't even think of it. I'm probably going to replace it next year though, because of the damage. I need new tail lights and a tailgate anyway.

The new cap has sliding windows on both sides with screens. I'm still looking for a buyer for the old one, price is now down to $100. Had a few bites on craigslist but everyone is in a rush and buys another one for twice the price. My availability sucks for meeting people with caps.

I'd pick it up for free :D I want one for my truck so once I get the brakeline fixed, I have something to camp in for fun! I would tear out the top of the cover, put in a screen, and then install an old B2 rear window or something flat thats cheap, so I can see the night sky aswell =).

That's a cool idea. Only thing I never liked about camping with it was the condensation. It turns into a sauna with the hot sun on it. Steam everywhere.

Thats why you use the windows =P also, you open the tailgate and stuff too, its actually very fun to sit in the bed of a truck at night while its raining.

I did it with my truck actually, when my parents were not home, i grabbed the shit topper that was sitting waiting to be junked, and threw it on old Nancy, and drove her into the field, and layed down inside the bed, and relaxed. I drove it back a few hours later, it was raining, and thats when the driver's side windshield wiper quit on me! XD

Got back and put the top back though =)

Working on installing that car alarm thing again. And yes, I know it's illegal. I will be installing a quick disconnect so I can unhook for inspections/shop work/tickets. I had it hooked up before because my horn didn't work, and I like beeping at my fathers workplace so he knows when I'm heading someplace.

I'm also going to find a spot to install my two Hella lights I have laying around. Dunno where I wanna put them yet. I might wait until I get a new bumper, and leave a huge gap in it so they will fit above it.

Ugly Stik FTW! I've got a similar or identical one :icon_thumby: What do you fish for mostly up in ny? I'm frequently out after bass and pickerel here in MA.

+1 on chilling in the bed with the topper. Hint: twin mattress fits perfect in the 6' bed. So does your favorite lady-friend :D

Completely missed this post! I fish for just about anything I can catch. Usually it's bullheads, bass, and perch, with the odd rainbow thrown in. IIRC saturday was opening season for bass, not 100% sure on that but I can't go out fishing anyway! I might be making that ugly stik my secondary pole soon, and picking up a Rhino pole, or a bigger ugly stik. I fish for what I can stand to eat, and for trophies. Honestly, in the right time of year I like catching sucker fish.. they're only good eating for a month or so, after that.. NASTY.

As for the truck, I got done painting that stuff, pics should be up tomorrow. Nothing special, just my cup holder because it was nasty and stained and my er.. dust shroud thing for my throttle pully. Just trying to dress things up a bit under the hood. I considered a cold air intake BUT I like my puddles. Tomorrow I'm actually going to try to fix something. I picked up an industrial sized pack of JB weld, and I'm going to try to patch the oil pan. Doubt it will work, but wish me luck!

Oh, and the lady from the bank called, she said she has the loan down as a no collateral which means CHEAP insurance again! WHOOT. I was paying 255/month on my car. Should know what it will be on Monday for the Ranger. Since the truck is still in my father's name, I will have it insured and registered to him, with me listed as the primary driver. Cheaper that way. Next year we will probably sign the title and all that over.

I'm NOT looking forward to those new ugly yellow NY plates.

Hey, I like this guys style!

It's ran for a few weeks. I just need it to stop leaking so much. I just got done slathering it in JB weld, hopefully it will slow the leak down. I'm putting more on tonight.

I took those pictures too.. I'm just almost late to work so I've gotta get heading out. I'll post them later.

Hey girls and rangers cant get much better than that.

Koda, if you change your mind on the CAI, I have one of those flanges that blots to your maf and utilizes your stock intake tube with a K&N style cone. I'd let you have it on the real cheap. Gives that pwwoooompf when you gas it off idle.

I ran it for a while and never had problems driving on the street in wet weather. The stock location behind the headlight tended to stay pretty dry on my truck. It was only when I started hitting holes as deep as my tires that I switched back to the stock airbox modded to breathe from the rear. I tore out the the snorkel on the front of the box and sealed it. and cut a nice 2"x6" or so hole in the back side, and am running a K&N drop in. Has as much or more intake sound than the cone.

Are you looking for sound/performance or the 'bling' of a shiny CAI? Personally I say clean everything really well and it'll look just fine. Its how it runs that really matters after all.
