By the way, those red shocks are 15+ shipping in the US if anyone wants them. They're monroe gasmatics that have been painted red.
 
Got that terrible two piece drive-shaft out. It's more like three pieces btw, there's the forward section after the bearing, then the second section going back from the bearing to a splined joint with the larger piece. Could just be an extended cab thing though.

I'm going to mock fit the drive-shaft in with the cross-member still in place. I'll most likely going to move it forward instead of modify it, as I don't want anything hanging too low to the ground. The cab and the other few cross-members up there provide quite a bit of support anyway.
 
In the market for leaf spring mounts and shock tabs. Probably going with ruffstuff but I owe it to my wallet to shop around.

Eventually I'm going to switch to a steel shaft, but that comes at the same time as the 4x4 swap.

Tech library mentions that with 2wd trucks you may have to modify the floorboards, but it fit fine on mine. May be applicable for 1st/2nd gens though.

The only thing I had some slight trouble with was the size of the slip yoke, but it fit. I had considered putting mine on it but it's fine as is.

That crossmember will fit well right underneath the tailhousing of the trans, no way for it to rub the driveshaft and it's close enough to the OEM location to provide enough support for me to sleep at night.
 
What was ford thinking when they built the "two" piece shaft?

Anyway, I found some paint that matches the color of the truck a little better I think. This can has a picture of a Ford Explorer on it so it increases the chances a bit lol. It's probably the updated color though, toreador red or whatever it is. Electric Currant Red is so hard to find.. it's even a weird name. Fords little play on words.

I'm going to wait to paint until I have my fenders, grill, and bumper ready to go on though. The hood can chill as it is for now.
 
Parting the truck isnt the solution. The thing is to never give up on it or anything that you want to do.
 
Take a look at my truck. Been there done that. But its cheaper, at least was for me, to build a truck that would do what I want and have what I want then to buy one.
 
I'm still alive, and so is the Ranger. In case anyone was wondering.

I'm starting back in on the project next week as I finally have had a chance to move it to my new house.
