Project Life Support.

Had some minor issues with the wiring not being right and needing a new distributor, but I got it all fixed so I'm happy.

Anyway, after I get back from vacation at Mongaup Pond (Livingston Manor NY) I will be ordering my Oil pan. That's gonna run me about 60 dollars shipped for a new one. Then I will be stopping by Gary's U Pull it after taking my father to his Biopsy to pick up a 7.5 with 3.73 gears. I'll either then spend my weekend swapping brakes and whatnot with the two axles and eventually putting the new one on or I'll spend it with my Girlfriend. Depends on if she has to work. I feel weird, I'm jobless and going on 18, she's 16 and makes about $260 a week..

I'm still deciding on if I want to paint the rear axle. Should I wire brush it and then paint it or just scrape off the lose bits? Maybe I should just put it on the way it is, I dunno. It's only a 7.5. If I paint it, it's either going to be black or dark red. Probably dark red.

finally!!! now get that head under your ranger and work it!!
glad u keeping the truck:icon_cheers:

Had my tire blow out on the way to Binghamton (pulling into the exit #1 off the highway) so I never really got around to buying that axle. Good thing though, hopefully if everything goes well I'll be picking an 8.8 up tomorrow from a member on here.

Then sometime next week I'm going to be looking into replacing my old aluminum cap with a fiberglass high rise. It's forest green, I plan to paint it either black or my body color if I do get it. Here's some photoshops of what it looks like. Hope the member who's truck I "borrowed" doesn't mind the quick shops.

I'm thinking Black.. because stands out but not too much. Although heat is a factor. If I leave it green it doesn't match but I can always sell it to my uncle who has a truck that matches it. My body color would seem to played out. Almost everyone around me with a truck my color has a body matched cap. Guy might sell it on me before I can get the cash though.

Pics of the Axle should be up on Satuday, I'll start swapping them over the weekend and hopefully I'll have it done by Tuesday. Just gotta find the top piece to my can of PB and then everything should pop right off.

who did you get the axle from ?

yea , pb and an impact take care of everything

I'd flat black it and paint the side windows black from the inside. Black out the grey trim too.

Hopefully from HOUSE102PROOF. Still waiting on a phone call to make sure everything's set then I'm heading out to pick it up.

I was thinking about taking the tint off the windows to be honest. I had my brothers tinted cap on for a while and couldn't stand the lack of visibility. Sure, it's better for privacy but I like being able to see.

Can see the sides with the side mirrors and straight behind out the back. Nothing else that needs seen that I know of, but I normally keep the back behind me.

Should be 3.73, but he wasn't sure so I'll have to check it out.

After looking at the axle today it looks like it's in alot better shape than mine on the outside, still have to look at the internals. So far the only negative is that the passengers side shock mount is bent out of shape, but I can beat it with a hammer until it goes back where it belongs.

Just went out and checked the gearing as well, the tag says 37388 so I guess it's the 3.73 then. I pulled the cover off and the gears look good. Now I just have to examine the brakes and take some measurements to make sure everything's going to align properly with my truck.

nice job buddy

Thanks. :icon_thumby:

When I get some more money than I have now I plan on getting a 1993+ 8.8 for the Ranger. Then I'll probably keep the 8.8 I have now just in case I ever decide to build up a truck 92 and older. It's only 28 spline, but it's better than a 7.5 so I'm happy.

yup good plan and do you plan on getting a locker?

I might. I'm going to wait on that though, in case I can't find an 8.8 in my size that has what I need. I might just downgrade if I can't and start running a 7.5 rear end again. The truck doesn't really see much off roading. Just up to the quarry on the back trails every once in a while. I like to play around at the gravel bank in Norwich too, but that's just to test some flex.

I've got a bad feeling I need new rear leafs.. right now they're prettymuch strait with just a TINY bit of curve to them, all I have in the bed is my cap and that weighs maybe 150 pounds. I'm going to take that off though.. after Tuesday.

Ended up getting pissed off at the insane amount of slugs collecting around my truck. I'm going to wait until it dries up some outside before I get back to work.
