Well its been a long road getting The Blue Pig on the road. With the help of this forum I have solved a ton of issues, so thank you all for that. Hopefully I have documented my threads well enough so that others can learn from them.

Anyhow, I have her inspected and moving down the road, but the engine just is not as happy as I would like it to be. It starts just fine every time, so no issues there. When it first idles, it is at about 1100 and drops to 800 or so when it is warmed up. What I do have trouble with is a jumpy/jerky throttle and what feels like a pulsation on acceleration. There is also a fair amount of pinging.

Here are some notes:
- All new vacuum hoses everywhere
- New Map sensor
- All new fuel system except fuel regulator and injectors
- Lubed the throttle cable
- Did zip-tie mod to take up slack in stretched cable.

Thoughts on where to begin? I am not a total noob, but my diagnostic skills are still in their infancy. Could it be a misfire? Fuel issue? Vacuum issue?

Fuel, air, spark.... That's what makes your air pump run. Ping is usually from timing or fuel.

Pull your spout connector and check base time. I had an intermittently bad one at one point and it would do some weird stuff to me.

Others will be along with more.... At work rn.

OK, you have yet to steer me wrong PJ412, so I will follow your orders. I'll check the timing first.

The best thing you could do is bring it over to my house. Just leave me the truck and the signed title and I’ll take care of it for you...

Seriously, that’s a nice looking BII.

More then likely its a timing issue....

Timing, plus I can recommend putting in a set of rebuilt injectors. Biggest improvement on mine, especially in smooth and strong accelleration, where that was hesitating and uneven/weak before. $60 delivered for 6, from CS Performance. Can't beat that, likely will improve fuel economy to boot.
And of course check your plugs, resistance on the wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil and I would also check the fuel pressure. Good luck and keep us posted. Is your B2 lifted a bit?

The fast idle @ warm up sound pretty normal, if it's settling down to 800 with an automatic transmission, that's great.

I regards to pinging, are you using premium fuel and has it has a resent tune-up?

I agree with the timing check...

I will also say that I would probably do a full compression test to ensure I'm playing with a full deck. I would also screw in a fresh set of plugs (Motorcraft or Autolites only) after reading the ones that came out. It's just as important as spark and fuel.

She is a beauty...

Good idea, I have no idea how old the injectors are. Anyone have any input on injector brands? Plugs wires and are new. I will check the fuel pressure and the coil.

And yep, there is a 1.5 in lift. Rough country springs in front and wulf shakles in back

I switched to 93, because it did reduce pining under load.

My truck is a manual, so maybe my idle is a bit high.

I absolutely have cheap-o plugs in there. Does it make that much of a difference?
