Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

Im loving my stint here in Idaho. I don't think it really dawns on you how oppressive California is until you get out of the state. And I don't just mean laws. It's peoples attitudes towards each other and towards the gov.

California is a drag. i was reading on 4bt swaps in CA on a forum from a few years ago and it might not be as hard as I am making it out to be.

Typical swaps have the motor be same year as truck or newer, with all emissions equipment operating fully functional.

For a diesel swap, some have just swapped in a motor same year as truck or newer, gone down to DMV or BAR with a statement of facts, and they change the motive power on your pink and in the system as well as verify you actually did the swap. Pay the fee and you are on your way. No smog ect....doubt it is still that easy but I can dream...

Rock sliders finally shipped....

Got the bumpstop mounts on this weekend and hopefully chargin them with Nitrogen this weekl for a trip this Saturday. Pics later. :icon_welder:

And dang it my original photobucket account hit its bandwidth limit again.

I can almost promise ca will make it harder than that.

Yeah just ask Wes how that went...

Yeah since that thread was started I'm sure CA has implemented new laws to make the process a total pain

My sliders finally showed up. And I got my bumps charged and mounts mounted

Whered you get them charged?

I sent them with my old boss to my old work down at the hospital remodel and they have all kinds of gasses down there for welding and system purging. Fo free I might add lol

keep your 4.0. i love the v8 but ca smog laws suck. i wish i kept my 3.0 so i could still drive my truck. the bar is ruthless they get out all the diagrams and if anything is out of place you fail. if you eliminate your a/c and dont program it out of the ecu it leaves a code and you fail.

congrats on the ototm.

How are you liking the air bumps?

Thanks dude. Yeah I don't dislike the 4.0L in there now but it won't last forever so I'll have to pull a motor at some point. It's a great motor and when It finally does die I may just slap another one in too keep things simple.

They are not optimally setup right now, b/c I have a lot of work ahead of me in terms of getting the truck dialed in, but from what little contact they do encounter, they are sweet.

I need to totally trim and plate the engine cross member, switch pitman arms, clearance the fenders and move the axle forward to dial in the up travel (maximize it I'm hoping). One thing at a time haha I'm site you know how that goes.

I also have been thinking that the 3.0 needs to find its way out of my truck someday. Consider just swapping in a 4.0 sohc, more power and a great buildable motor. From cams to headers to superchargers. Easier to get smogable. Or let's all get an out of state po box and register them there and go crazy lol. Ca smog blows!

Or just move up here to Idaho with me :D

yay Idaho lol. I went up 8th street a bit in my new (to me) ranger yesterday and was going to park next to you, but felt too inferior. I had a tiny bit of mud and your truck is completely covered lol.

You should have! My truck really isn't anything special even covered in mud.

I will next time. My truck just looks so, I don't know, girly I guess. I'm planning a t bar crank, 31's, and Procomp 7031 wheels pretty quick.
