My credo
God’s plan, not mine.
Project is so named because I am using FULL WIDTH 60’s front and rear.

Picked up a 91 ranger ext cab.

-Has a 3.0, which I will be swapping out for a 5.0.
-M5OD trans, which I will be swapping out for a ZF5
-And is 2wd, which I will be doing a SAS with a D60 front and rear. D60 is from a 79 F-350, not sure what the rear is from, but it has 35sp axles and discs.
-Deleting A/C, but keeping heat.

Did well I’d say, as there is easy access to swap the motor 🤣, and since it will be an off road toy, I have no intentions of fixing the dent in the bed.

I’m unsure what type of transfer case I will be running. Most likely either and Atlas or one from Behemoth Drivetrain.

I’m in B’ham AL, and always enjoy a fellow enthusiast to come by and swap stories

Also, what I will not be using will be sold to help fund other parts of the build. Let me know what/if you need. Prices are very cheap. 🤪

-Rims are NOT for sale.
-3.0 doesn’t turn… so I would assumed locked up. Will sell all or parts.
-M5OD seems to shift fine, but have not pulled it to inspect.
-Rear is a 7.5 with 3.54 gears.

I will update everyday that I do something…. No matter how small. And look for pics. Seems no one else had made the Explorer 5.0 to 92 Ranger swap before.

Thanks man. I’m excited to begin building it.

Are you keeping the length as is or shortening it up? It looks like it has a 7 foot bed.

@NakedDucks I'm In Tallahassee, and IF that 3.0 runs, I could use it. For the right price, of course. PM me with a price when you're ready and we'll see if we can afford it. My dad plans on getting the Ranger back on the road.

I have 2 3.0’s. One from this one and one from an 03.

I know the one from the 03 was ran hot, but only for about 10 mins, so I doubt it cracked a head.

I’ll put a ratchet in this one when I get back home and see if it spins over. (It did not, so I’m going to assume it’s locked up)

But I’d sell BOTH for $250 (yes, 2 motors…$250).
They are worth that much as cores.

Big Block.

If I were doing an SAS and a 5.0 swap, I’d cut that huge stupid TTB/TIB crossmember out and build my own. That way I’m not limited on engine placement, oil pan restrictions, etc.

I'm looking forward to following this. If you want a simple transfer case to get started with that fits in the frame rails I'd look for a manual case out of a '97-03 F150 but grab both drivelines to butcher for your needs... They're similar to the Ranger units with ~2.5:1 gears, only downside is no speedo gear output and the rear output is slip spline like a 2wd transmission but they're available and bolt on and fit in the framerails...

Oh, and just cuz I have to, '89-92 is my favorite body style so I'm into it...
