Ok, so after class today i went to the local ford dealer. Priced a new 302 long block, 2400 bucks plus tax. It comes with all requiered gaskets too, so that was nice. Also, i learned that there IS no difference between the HO and non HO upper and lower intakes, they are the same part # from like, 86 to 88 or 89, so thats a bonus, this meand I can re use my current intake manafold and plenum, bonus!! Now comes the pain, NEW 19lb injectors-170 bucks EACH, so we are taking a different rout to get thouse...question: How bad would it be to re use the white injectors i have now? Ok, bac kto the story, more pain when it comes to the Throttle body, 400 bucks for that, so we are hitting Evil bay for one of thouse, juss hope I dont get screwed. So, now we are onto the wireing, learned somthing new hear too, the wireing harness for the H.O and non H.O have the same part #, so, i can save a few bucks there. This is what realy hurts tho, ford cant get "new" ecms for these old motors any more, so im kinda woundering what to do about this.. Any ideas? Thats my day so far....IF anyone is woundering why im going to all this work, and spending this money...well, there is somthing inside my junkyard built engine that is just dying to come out, so when it does I want to be prepaired, im planing to do the swap during my reading week.... If the engine comes apart befor hand, I will be sure to take pics and post them. Cheers

Don't ever buy from the local dealer unless you really, really have to. There are a lot of the old SVO dealers with the same for a lot less. CPU and the wiring is probably going to have to be an E-Bay item. Good luck, don't know what you have right now or which direction you are headed into. It's out there, just be careful.

well, what i have is this. 302 roler block, 351 cam ( i think) the white top injectors, non highoutput ecm headers and a 55mm TB. This stuff worked for a bit, but the engine is about to go clunk bang thud lol, so im replacing it with new stuff. There isnt a performance show within 100km from me so, this is why im hitting the dealer. Its a fair price for a long block with all the needed gaskets tho. Whats gettin me is the ECM I dont know how much of a problem it would be to run the new engine with the non H.O ecm.....im doing the swap no matter what, so it would be good to know what i can "get away with" for a short term. Im callin the local junk yards for some 19lb injectors and a TB...anyone else have some advice.?

Just checked with Downs Motor Sports on line and they have a set of eight 24# injectors listed for $295. Sounds a bit better. Same thing goes for the TB and MAF, try after market for them.

ok, so, talked to ford today to get more details. price is good, 2 grand, problem tho, they dont have any in stock and it would take over two weeks for them to track one down and build it, so...new plan. Went to UAP/NAPA and ended up ordering a 302 thats been worked over for a customer who never came to pick it up. So, its in the back of my truck now. Im ordering a holly TB and egr spacer. Got my injectors coming too, should be in next week. They are flow tested and matched and the set of 8 is 110 bucks ..things are lookin up now, i still need an ECM tho...

Oh ya, for sure, but But I dont have time or resorces to do that, which blows. Im living in an apartment and all my tools are at work, which wouldnt be so bad, but im back in school. And i need an engine like, yesterday because my truck is also my dd. The whole situation blows, but if ya wana play, ya gotta pay right.

have you tried contacting painless wiring i think they make a wiring harness and after market ecm for old 302s but i could be wrong.

I have been dealing with a guy in Pennsylvania for about 6 years now. I will NEVER go through ANYBODY else when buying parts for a ford motor. He specializes in Mustangs and Ford Motors and that is it. There is no question about a ford motor he can't answer. He doesn't get into the 6 cylinder motors or the newer modular stuff, but if you own a 289, 302, 351, 428, 429, or a 460 he's your man.

Call D&D Automotive Specialties and ask for Bob 610-432-0041 you won't regret it.

Plus he tries to be pretty competitive with summit and jeg's.

thats a serious long distance call juss to get some minor questions answered.
I need to find this stuff within 9 days from now, so the heat is on haha. anyone in Canada have a ecm kickin around?

Manifolds the same? Not true.

The lower is exactly the same.

The HO upper and the Non-HO upper are EXTERNALLY identical, the internal volume of the plenum is different (larger) on the HO upper manifold.

so why do the plenums use the same part #? I wanna get all this straight befor I go spending cash...

what kind of ECM do you need man? I can ask around, between me and my dad we should know someone who has one kicking around. Have you tried www.jeepkings.ca either? It's a mostly ontario-based site, I've been on there for awhile. Mainly Jeeps, obviously, but there are ford, yota', zuki, dodge and chev guys too...

Lindsay is up Peterborough way ain't it?

I don't know how far into this you are, but a quick search for an '89 Mustang 5.0L shows that they sell a completly rebuilt engine with a warranty for under $2100. That would sound like the easiest way to go in my opinion.

well, i got the engine today I forget it the H.O's came with a forged crank, but when i ordered mine I requested forged parts(im way to hard on things). The engine came in today, which was a week ahead of schecual, so thats good. It cost me 3200 after tax and shiping. found an ecm on Evil bay last night, its a DA1, I checked www.fordfuelinjection.com and i guess thats the one I need for an 87 engine. I also bought new 19lb injectors that were rebuilt and flow matched, got the set for 110 bucks. Also bought a 65mm TB and egr spacer, it looks like things are coming togeather for me. ParkingLot, where is St Tomas? I have the odd feeling we talked b4 on trs way back in the day? It would be great if we could work somthing out and find a ECM, it would be a lot faster for me. All i need to do now is get this intake plenum stuff figured out
