PlumCrazy's Build

I wasnt planning on even touching it until summer.lol But as soon as I unloaded it I started cleaning it up and picking up parts. It will probably sit for a little while now. I have a few jobs to finish up before I will have the funds to pick up tubing and rodends for the steering linkage and wheels and coil springs.

I may get it under the truck by the end of the year, but I really doubt it.

I got the brakes on today, and man are they a tight fit on a 15" rim.

Awesome! im the same way ill plan something but if it sits in front of me i gotta mess with it till its done. When u do pull it lemme know how much u want for them coils, they would fit nicely in my ranger that i been piecin together.

Any plans on regearing the axles now that u have some good beef?

They are geared right where I want them. 4.09/4.10. With the way I have the tranny geared down it works out awesome. I still have decent mpg on the highway, but lower final crawl than 4.56's in 3rd gear.:icon_thumby:

I will post an ad in the classifieds as soon as the TTB comes off. First come first serve. I need to get the old bank account back up where it used to be.lol

Turns out I should have put locktite on the bearing cap bolts.

Not too big of a set back. I picked up a lset of 4.10s from the JY for 25 bucks.:icon_twisted: The debri trashed every single bearing and seal in the rear end, so that wasnt cheap.

I backed the truck in the shop and had it back on the road with new gears in less than 4 hours.

On a brighter note. The UPS man brought me these today. 3/4" rod ends for steering linkage on the D44. I will be running 1.50" DOM .250 wall. Going over the knuckle with the tierod.

I should be picking up a set of 5x5.5 bolt pattern 15x10 wagon wheels tomorrow.

would you want to sell just the 3rd member from the TTB or will you sell the whole thing ?

I will probably part out the front end since I seem to have interest in most of the bigger pieces.

Im assuming you are interested in the 4.10s? I have a 3.73 chunk pulled already if you are interested.

yea , the 4.10's is what i am looking into , my 97 currently has 3.73's in it , it cam from the factory with 235's on it , it wasnt too bad when i went up to 31's , but my mileage dropped , and now i am bumping up to 32's , and with my FX4 with 4.10's and Mud tires i still got 19 Highway , so i am trying to recover some of that mileage i lost in the 97 when i went to a bigger tire , it is all depending on how bad my mileage gets when i up to the 32's

I was running 3.73s w/ 35's and it got better mpg then I do now with 4.10's and 35's. I bought my truck with 3.27's and 31's, then I went to 3.73's and 33's, now I have 4.10's and 35's. I kept the same speedo gear through all he changes, and it has always been within 3 mph of my Tomtom. Now that I have 4.10s my speedo reads a little fast which means it is lower combination than the 3.27s and 31s.

Im running 2200 RPM at 65 mph. If you run 4.10s with 31's you will be hitting 3000 or more at 65 mph, your going to see a decrease in mpg.

Its all in the pedal, I bought mine with 3.27's and 235's I upgraded to 31's and then went to 3.55's now I have 33's so far not much difference. Itll be another week or two before I can be specific. Id love to have 3.73's with my 33's.

hmm , for some reason my mileage went down when i went to a larger tire , but my truck with 4.10's and 31's got better mileage than my truck with 3.73's and 31's , the only difference between the 2 trucks is one is a 4.0 OHV and the other is a 4.0 SOHC

was it city driving or highway driving? The 4.10 gearing will help city mileage, while the 3.73 would be better geared towards highway driving.

Pretty good mix, but I would say more highway. I drive 100 miles of highway one way to school, and about 75-100 miles of in town/ hilly back roads during the week, then 100 miles back home every week.

I need to get a DD to keep the miles off the Ranger. This 40K a year has to stop soon.lol

I drove home from school last week with 800+ pounds of axle/suspension parts in the bed and my mpg's didnt change a bit.lol

I loved how my truck drove with 3.73's and 33's. I honestly think 4.10's and 35's is a smidge too low, but it is better than the 3.73's with 35's. With my current setup I never have to down shift on long grades on the highway, I can keep the cruise set at 70 and not lose any speed, which was an issue with 3.73's and 35's.

mine is mostly mixed driving , i drive 85.5 miles one way to school , then 24 miles a day becak and forth to class , then 85.5 back home , and that is all driving anywhere from 15 to 60 MPH , but then i do the occasional trip to my dads which is 90% highway driving
