How many quarts of the synthentic gear oil did you two use? I need to rebuild the L/S in my 8.8 before I throw it under my truck. I'm waiting to get past xmas and be able to make January's rent before I order up the M-4700-B rebuild kit. I bought three quarts of the valvoline synthentic for the 8.8 in my mustang but I haven't done that yet So did I buy enough for one differential or do I need to get more?

i dont use synthetic in my truck , the only time i will use synthetic is if i completely rebuild with new case components , bearings , seals , and completely clean the housing out , and clean the gears , then i will use synthetic

but to answer your question , i used 3 full quarts of oil , plus a tube of additive , but i overfilled ( axle was hanging as the truck was on the lift )

The L/S actually requires full synthetic. If you use conventional gear oil it will start to "chirp" when ever the clutches slip (like around every corner). 3 quarts will be enough.

I did not know that , good thing my cover is leaking a little , so it has to be drained anyway , i just use Valvoline 80W-90 , what did you use in your truck ?

I think it was Synthetic 75-140, but I am not sure on the weight. I will check later. I went to Advance Auto and looked up what a 96 Expo rear diff calls for. And you also have to add 4 ounces of friction modifier. I picked a bottle up at Ford for like 5 bucks.

It looks like shipping is around 25 bucks. So I could one out to you for around 100 bucks.

Trac-locks do not require full synthetic, only the Torsen limited slip found in FX4s require full syn 75w-140. Trac-locks can use conventional or full-syn, as long as you use the friction modifier. My truck has a trac-lock and I use Valvoline Synpower (full syn) 75w-90, and I don't use any friciton modifier. This gear oil already has the additive mixed in. Been using it for over 5k miles and haven't had any problems with slipping or noises.

When I had the fuel rail off to replace the gaskets I drilled and tapped out a hole for my fuel pressure gauge.

I'm curious as to where you found the gauge pod. Is it a ranger piece or made for something else that you made to work?
