I was driving to the store and all of a sudden the truck dies. It won't start up. I sprayed starter fluid into the carb but still no fire. I pulled the fuel line off the carb and wrapped a clean towel around it and turned the engine over. Towel has gas on it so I figure the pump is ok. Where do I go from here?

Well I just replaced the ignition coil. Still nothing... Where is this ignition control module that I've been reading about?

I'm assuming you have the 2.8 liter in the 85 ranger. I'll also assume that the engine turns over. I don't know that engine and ignition system but I would start by checking for spark. Stick a key or screwdriver into the coil wire and place it about 1/4" away from a ground, like the valve cover. Do you have spark? If not then check under the distributer cap for rotor turning. Points? Other than that I have nothing. Hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in.

There wasn't spark to the plugs but gas was getting to the carb. It turned out to be the TFI module (ignition control module)
