Pioneer radio install question: Car off issue

Hi all,

Just finished an install for my Ranger 2000 XLT with a Pioneer DEH-6700BT.

Everything seems to be working fine...even the dimmer feature which was surprising given feedback from others online.

My two questions are:

1. Does Pioneer show a clock when the car is "OFF" (not in accessory or any other 'on' status)?
2. Should the radio (music functions) even work when the car is off?

Currently, when the car is off, the radio is dead / non functional in any way. However it does not lose its settings, the set clock time, radio presets.

I have searched online, pressed every single button on the head unit, and checked the wiring -- no luck.

Thanks for you help!

Reads like it is working like it should.

Key off would be a "dead" radio, no display, no nothing.

If it is holding presets and time, then all is well with your install.

If you want a clock display that runs 24/7, then just get a battery operated stick-on display.
Or maybe there is a head unit that offers that as a option, clock display that stays on when key is off, and while not a huge drain on the battery it certainly isn't no drain on the battery.

Check pioneer manual for your unit, it may have that option, and it would have to be a user option since default would be to use less battery power when key is off, or people would complain that the clock won't shut off, lol.
The head unit has battery power 24/7 so could be an option just a few button pushes away :)

Thanks Ron!

I was hoping it would have a clock feature while the truck is off, but I am okay without it. I am just glad it sounds like I have missed nothing...didn't want to short / burn down my truck.

I figure I will try to get on the phone with Pioneer to share these questions to include in their FAQ. I spoke with my buddy who has a similar head unit in a new Ranger...he too has been wondering about the car off scenarios and his stuff has been working without issue (Best Buy installed).
