i got a stock 94' and im looking to buy some performance upgrades. what would be the best bang for my buck? air intake? new exhaust system? i dont know much since im only 16.

For one thing we need to know what motor you have

if you are willing to spend some money i would look into comp cams. they have a sweet one out for torque and mileage. all you need is pushrods that are .050 longer. but load more torque, more ponies and 3-4 mpg gain. my brother just installed his and it sounds like a beast

As trucks aren't really sports cars there are other ways to improve your truck other than "performance", that is if you are refereing to engine performance.

Think about traction improvement (positive differentials)
suspension work etc...

2wd or 4x4? which you have determines how to procede.

sorry its a 2wd. and by performance i pretty much mean anything that will make it better, like mpg, more horsepower, ride smoother etc.

The best bang for your buck will be a cat-back exhaust, either a kit or custom-bent with a turbo muffler.
Intake kits don't make much difference because the stock intake isn't very restrictive. Any improvement will be at high rpm where trucks don't often run anyway. If you want to do anything there, just get a K&N replacement filter and pull out the silencer.
For a smoother ride the first thing to do is look for broken springs. Check both the front coils and rear leaves carefully. Bigger tires will help, for a 94 Ranger I'd look for a used set of 15x7 Explorer aluminum wheels and put P215/70-15 or P225/70-15 tires on them. Your shocks might be old, if you have NAPA stores in Canada the NAPA store brand shocks are really Monroe Sensa Tracs painted blue and at half the price.

What is with the different length pushrods? I read elsewhere that the 4.0 OHV does wear them out, is that why? Rockauto.com has .060" longer ones. What happens if they are too long?

Can the cam be installed without removing the motor? Just takeout the radiator? Do you have to take out the condenser?

Johnnyo, the napas are repaint Monroe sensa-tracs? Is this only in Canada? Just curious... I've beengoing to napa over other lately cause the owner helps me out a lot.
