The previous owner of my truck butchered the harness to install a radio. I'd like to return it to factory if possible, and use a proper wiring harness that plugs in to my factory 1987 radio/dash harness.

Does anyone have a factory radio harness from an 87 model that they'd be willing to cut out of a parts truck for me? Shoot me a price..

OR

Can anyone tell me off hand, does an 89 Bronco II use the same wire colors as an 87 Ranger in the radio harness? I have some parts Bronco's but I'd rather not fight the wasps inside them if I can avoid it. I assume they'll be different due to the change in radio features and design.

If not then I'll have to make a drive to my local 1st gen graveyard and locate a harness..

Seems like TRS doesn't have any diagrams for the early Rangers either..

Those wire colors look accurate.

Ford used the same plugs and wire colors pretty much across the whole lineup from the mid 80s to the mid 90s for the radio.

That's encouraging. I'll have to go have a look in one of my scrap Bronco II's and see about cutting out the harness. I just don't have it in me to try to remove the entire dash harness just for fixing the radio wiring.

I don't blame you. That dash is easy to remove, the harness is a PITA.

I do have an original factory am-fm casette radio from a 1988 B2 with all wiring and plugs intact. If that can help you I will sell it very reasonably as the radio does not play.

Hey man, I appreciate the offer, but I forgot to update this thread. I ended up pulling the Pioneer unit out of my 89 Ranger parts truck and cutting the wiring plugs I needed out of it too. So my truck's wiring is now as close to original as I can get it.

Thanks again for the offer.

For what it's worth, the radio harness in the 89 Bronco II XLT ended up being different than what I needed. It has two different (one square and one long/flat) plugs, where the harness in my 89 Ranger XLT had two long flat plugs.

Mods can delete this now, as my issue is fixed.

We almost never delete a thread when there is info in it that some future user may find.

In fact I never delete a thread unless the OP asks specifically for a delete.

The only good info in this thread is that the radio wiring plugs between the 1989 Ranger XLT 2.9 4x4 manual transmission/transfer-case standard cab longbed, and the 1989 Bronco II XLT 2.9 4x4 were different from one another. Spectra makes the plug-n-play harness with plugs for both.

It would be nice ot mark the thread as "FOUND"
