Does anyone know the factory Ford part number for a 1985 Ranger 2.8 accelerator cable? Mine snapped on the way home today and I limped her home by attaching a string to the carb linkage and running it through a hole in the firewall. lol

I'm getting conflicting info by doing a Google search for one. It looks like Oreillys and Advance Auto Parts both have cable available but I'm not sure that the engine end of the cable is the same.

Thanks for the info Andy.

Judging by your picture, I'm going to have to do some more investigating on my truck. My cable looks a bit different than that one.

My cable is an odd one indeed. It's like one foot long. All factory crimps and parts from what I can tell. All of the parts stores can only get ones for the 2.0 or 2.3 trucks, and they're like 30+ inches long. I had Oreillys go ahead and order one to see if I can make it work.

No idea on originality, it wasn't new when I got the truck in 2000 though. Mine has a metal end that clips onto a ball stud.

The metal end looks just like mine. I'm starting to wonder if the manufacturers are just making the long cables for the 2.0/2.3 now and expect the 2.8 owners to just put a large loop in the cable when installing.. Although, they don't list any of the cables as fitting the 2.8 trucks so..

I'm supposed to pick up the (35-1/2 Inch) very long 2.0/2.3 cable (vs my 1ft cable) tomorrow after work, so we'll see what happens. I think I can put a large loop in it and run er. I'll try to inject plenty of grease to counteract the friction from the loop.

If nothing else research what people use on carb V8 swaps. The 2.8 one works great on my 302 but I know most guys that don't have a 2.8 are not tracking down 2.8 cables.
