I used to do nothing before 6:30 am, now it takes all day.
2002 Ranger, XLT, 4.0L, 4WD, 5R55E (?)

Transmission dipstick tube rusted out. I ordered and received a new one (part # F77Z-7A228-AA) along with the o-ring. When I removed the tube to replace it, the short tube that goes between the part I ordered and the trans body came out with it and I can't get the two pieces separated. Anyone know the part # for the short tube? I can't find an online catalog that shows it. Really need to get this thing on the road so I can go ice fishing again before it warms up. TIA

I looked up that part number on fordpartscatalog.com - and the name it returned was "Tube Oil Filler" - so working forward with that description I got 8 pages and most all of it is engine oil no trans related.... did you try a site like fordpartscatalog? I've not found it in the first couple pages - usually if you can find it you get a picture with associated parts and if not there then there is a "also bought with" that usually has one piece each side.

I googled "5r55e exploded view with part number" and got this:

you are looking for part number 371 on that right... might try googling similar and see if you can get real part numbers. (the site that pic came from was useless)

Thanks for the fast response, and taking the time to dig around the net. That part, #371, isn't the piece I was looking for, but I may need it also. Here's a couple pics to show what I'm looking for.

New tube on top, old 2 piece tube on bottom.

Close up of the tubes. You can see the short extension stuck on the end.

Found it! I went back to the online parts catalogs again and noticed a part I had overlooked before because the pic didn't resemble the part I was looking for. This time I noticed the description 'Tube - Oil Filler'

I then saw it was replaced with part # 6L5Z-7A160-A so I looked up that number and found this:

So far, so good. I got under the truck this morning got a good look at where it goes into the transmission and it doesn't look like any other parts will be needed.
