Well if it will continue to be a daily driver then you would be better off staying with 3.0l.
Ford has put 10 Million 3.0l Vulcan engines on the road, 500,000 per year for 20+ years.
So used engines in good shape are not hard to come by.
And since you have the accessories(A/C, PS, Alt), intake, oil pan and exhaust for Ranger you can use the long block from any vehicle with a 3.0l Vulcan, Taurus, Tempo, Probe, and the Vans, sable and topaz as well.

V8 conversion can be reliable but..............depends on how much money you are willing to spend on it.
