My 4.0 v6 over heats after the coolant is pushed into the over flow tank.. I was told that between the #1 cyclender and #2 cyclender is an exhaust port that cracks and pressureizes the coolant system. am I on the right track. No collant in oil ,no smoke from exhaust, or lack of power

Well, it could be, but I doubt it if you aren't burning coolant. The way to tell for sure is a cylinder leakdown test, or else a test for combustion products in the coolant.

If the system isn't full, it will boil and push coolant out the overflow. It will also do that if the radiator cap is bad. Boiling can happen with other leaks as well, but it will usually push the coolant out the leak.

If you have an automatic transmission, that can make your coolant boil as well, if it's slipping. If it does this, it will usually make the ATF smell obviously burnt.

If it only happens at low speed, it could be something rather mundane like a blown fan clutch or a plugged radiator (i.e., it's just overheating).

Sunny you say "overheating" But fail to say if it actually pukes out the coolant.. If it IS PUKEING you have a fair chance of a crack.. However if it simply raises the temp above normal and doesn't puke you have NO CHANCE of a crack.

FWIW, my 2.9L did not puke any coolant when I had a cracked head. I suspect the pressure behind the coolant pushed it through the crack in the head and into my oil. Seems like it could only puke if the system can hold pressure, which wasn't the case for me, since the crack prevented it from pressurizing..

check the rad. cap mine went bad and started boiling the water. Cheap and easy jusy pull it off another truck and try it out.

over heating

ok another cercumstance when the outside tempature is below 60 degrees the engine runs fine. when the outside tempature is above 60 temp gauge goes to H or above the coolant then goes into coolant resivor. No coolant in oil at all. If I go down hill the temp gauge will go back to normal could it be a clogged rad. this is maken me crazy
