AC/Heating Issue

Hello all,

Just joined so don't know if this is the right place, but I'm having a bit of an issue with my 2020 Ford Ranger. I just bought it for 31k 4 months ago, but I'm having an issue already.

Sometimes when using the heat, I could turn it to cool air in the AC but it wouldn't blow cold. So I'd turn it on defrost full blast with heat, then I'd turn it to full blast AC. When I do this I hear a loud POP and then the AC would work but the heat wouldn't blow as hot as before.

On my way home tonight, it was getting warm in the truck so I turned it to blow colder air, but the air never got colder. I blew it on full AC and blazing hot air would blow instead. I'm not sure what's going on.

To be honest I'm not a super truck guru or anything but I can do simple things. I'm wondering if there's anyone who may know what's happening. Please help if you can. Thanks.

You will get the best answer here, but it might be a bit. I know they do some seemingly wacky stuff with heater, AC, and defrost combinations, I even found my 93 to things I'd think absurd.

Thanks I appreciate the response. We'll I'm hoping the dealership I bought it from will fix it, but won't know til Monday. Just don't want to shell out hundreds of dollars if I can fix it myself whatever the issue is. Appreciate the welcome.

If I had to guess it might be the blend door. But since it's a 2020, even if it has a blend door, I'm sure it's electronically controlled.
My 94 is vacuum operated so that's a little easier to deal with.
Wish I could offer more, but I'm not at all familiar with the newer models.

There was a recall/tsb regarding blend door crap on some of the earlier new trucks iirc. Relatively sure the fix requires removing the entire dash.

Alright. The problem apparently comes from the blend door being cheap/thin plastic.

It'll warp, get jammed, then strip out the actuator gear.

Ford revised the entire hvac housing to be more robust, the fix is yeah.. remove the dash and replace the housing. Then probably deal with squeaks and rattles forever from inside the dash lol.

I agree. It sounds like a blend door issue. I would have Ford fix it since it should be covered under warranty.
