I'm looking for first hand experience from those of you that have it. I'm in the market for a new headset that both has great sound quality and at the minimum a good quality microphone. I currently have a Razer Kraken Ultimate head set that is at best good sound reproduction quality with a poor microphone. I use my head set for both listening to music and gaming/Voice recording. The issue with this current headset is that the microphone is strait up garbage so voice recording is sub par at its best. I do have a sound card in my PC ( Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 ) that I would like to use for both Audio control and Recording so I need the headset to be 3.5mm jack capable.

Being a bit of an audiophile I really like my headsets to have really good to great sound reproduction. My current headset is good at best in gaming and just O.K. at best at audio reproduction for music. I had a Creative Fatality headset that I was able to use my old sound card to get great at gaming and good at music reproduction but it was an on ear set and how I found the issue of headaches with. Before you ask, Yes I have used the software to adjust the graphic equalizer to adjust it to my liking and to boost the tones I am hard of hearing, to many years in the saw mills and shops without proper ear protection. Because I use an older PC case so I do not have the option of headset/microphone jacks in one jack I need to have separate jacks for each I/O.

Sadly Beer Fetcher's audio system is better than my current headset for audio reproduction and my PC cost more than I have into that truck in total.

Here is the specs I need as a base start:

Must have's,
Must have 3.5 mm jacks for both audio and microphone. I prefer 2 separate jacks but there can be 3.5mm, 4 pole with an adapter to 2x 3.5mm jacks.
Must have a speaker frequency response of at least ( preferably Lower/Higher than ) 20hz - 20 Khz
Must have a mic boom. I am not in the market for two separate items.
Must be over ear because on ear headsets give me headaches.
Must Not have inline controls. I have found these to be the weak point and cause issues like crackling, speakers to cut out and mic issues over time. On headset controls are fine.

What headsets do you have experience with and what is your impressions of the sound reproduction of both the speakers and mic's?
I'm looking for opinions on different headsets so I can try to find one that fits my wants and needs.

Thanks

I had a pair years ago and while they fit nice I found the bass and mid outputs to be off. Next to no bass and the mids always sounded hollow even with adjusting the equalizer. Like I mentioned this was years ago so they most likely have changed in sound quality.

My biggest issue is there is no where close where I can listen to a range of them. The closest place would be Best Buy but that is an hour away. That seems silly to drive that far you not purchase them there. Their prices are higher than you can get them online. I'll keep them kn mind next time I'm out that way.

Do you have a model number I can referance?

No personal experience, but gamers seem to like the Astro stuff for some reason.

Headphones are way too restrictive and ungratifying. I strongly recommend this in a dedicated gaming/listening room.

I already have a 5.1 surround speaker system for the PC and it sounds awesome but I want to be able to really turn up the volume and not piss off my neighbors. This is the reason for the headset.

I have the Razer Kraken Ultimate headset which sounds good for gaming but doesn't do well for music not to mention it is a USB-A connection so I can't use my sound card for them. I have to use Razers software which isn't as good as a sound card.

I have come to the conclusion that to get what I want I'll have to get 2 separate units. A set of good headphones designed for music and a separate microphone. I've been looking at a set of Sennheiser and a few other brands and maybe tomorrow, since I'm at the GF house, we'll run over to the mall and check and see what Best Buy has on display and how those sound. From here it's only a 10 min drive and not an hour from my place.

For a mic I need to figure out how to mount it then select the type of voice beam I'll need from there. I don't want it in my field of vision so the direction of the mic pick up will play a big part in which one I'll get.

A local Best Buy here has a headphone listening station. They have polka and elevator music, nothing else. So, it's pointless.
